Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 27, 2023, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Robert “Bob” L. Schmit, age 86, who passed away Tuesday at his residence. Rev. Mark Stang and Rev. Scott Pogatchnik will officiate and burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2023, at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Monday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Bob was born December 8, 1926 in St. Cloud to Lawrence and Catherine (Tillie) Schmit. He proudly served our country in the U. S. Army. Bob married Kathleen Backes on October 20, 1962, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in St. Nicholas. He lived in St. Cloud most of his life and worked as a Printer for Sentinel Printing for over 40 years, retiring in 2000. Bob was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and St. Cloud Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #622. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cribbage, watching his grandchildren compete in sports, breakfast with the Boys, and spending time with family, especially at his cabin on Pelican Lake.

Bob is survived by his children, Sandy (Leon) Faust of St. Cloud, Ron (Jan) Schmit of Chaska, Lori (Rob) Wager of Centennial, CO, and Karla (Mark) Donlin of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Katie, Philip, Sarah, Eric, McKenzie, Alex, Adam, and Lucas; one great-grandchild due in March; brothers and sisters, Mary Jo Schmit of Glendale, CO, Don (Jean) Schmit of Helena, MT, Barb Marchwick of Lewiston, MN, Cathy Schmit of Aurora, CO; in-laws, Kathe Schmit of Helena, MT, Geri (Jim) Pettitt of Cedar Rapids, IA, Mary Lou Backes of Oak Park, IL, Pat Scheuring of Oak Park, IL, David Backes of Buffalo, Fred (Kate Yates) Backes of Erie, CO, and Rosie (Don Rogers) Backes of Boulder, CO; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathleen on November 10, 2014; brothers, Jim and John; sister, Pauly Oehrlein; sisters-in-law, Deloria Schmit and Dottie Schmit; brothers-in-law, David Marchwick, Clarence Oehrlein; goddaughter, Michelle Pettitt.
