Lorraine Hennen
Cold Spring
October 19, 1930 – April 15, 2022
Lorraine Hennen, age 91 of Cold Spring, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Friday, April 15, 2022, at Assumption Community Home in Cold Spring, MN.
Lorraine was born on October 19, 1930, in Pearl Lake (Marty), MN to John and Theresa Schwartz. She married Oswald Hennen on September 4, 1950, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Pearl Lake.
Lorraine and Ozzie farmed near Gilman, MN for ten years before moving to Pearl Lake in 1965 where they farmed for another 26 years. The Pearl Lake farm had been in Lorraine’s family ever since her grandparents purchased it in 1866. They, in turn, sold it to Lorraine’s parents in 1928. In recognition of the farm being family-owned for more than 100 years, Lorraine and Ozzie were awarded a Century Farm Plaque by the Stearns County Historical Society. It was a beautiful farm with an apple orchard, plum tree, raspberry bushes, an enormous vegetable garden, and a wooded, green pasture with a shallow creek. Lorraine and Ozzie’s children very much appreciate their years of growing up on both farms and the loving care their parents provided.
Lorraine was a kind, gentle, hardworking mother who drew strength from her Christian faith. With ten children to take care of, she mastered the art of gardening, canning, cooking, baking, sewing, and bookkeeping for the farm business.
Lorraine is survived by her children Caryn (Anthony) Thole, Clearwater; William (Roberta) Hennen, Provo, UT; Sandra (James) Mackedanz, St. Cloud; Diane Grundhoefer, St. Cloud; Joseph (Linda) Hennen, Cold Spring; John (Theresa) Hennen, Lakeville; James (Susan) Hennen, Plymouth; Jeffry (Deanna) Hennen, Cold Spring; and Robert (Jennifer) Hennen, Annandale; siblings Jean Bernard, Jim Schwartz and John Schwartz; sisters-in-law Alice Scheierl and Katie Kramer; 33 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Oswald; son Charles; son-in-law Gerald Grundhoefer; parents John and Theresa; siblings Joseph (infancy), Benedict, Frances Lieske, Gerald, Bernice Ramler and Mary Ann Helgeson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from Hennen and Schwartz sides of the family.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the Angels on earth at Assumption Community Home and Moments Hospice who lovingly cared for their sweet Mother during the past four years
