Marie E. Hesse, age 97

Cold Spring
November 3, 1920 – March 3, 2018

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 9, 2018 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Marie E. Hesse, age 97, who died Saturday at Assumption Home in Cold Spring.  Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Marie was born in Eden Valley to George and Rose (Hilsgen) Bruner. She married Virgil Hesse Sr. on June 15, 1940 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring. Marie was a welder in the shipyards during WWII, she was a bus driver for Richmond Bus Service and the College of St. Benedict.  She also was a rural mail carrier.  She enjoyed painting in her 80’s and won a Blue Ribbon for one of her paintings at the Stearns County Fair.  Marie loved reading, golfing, gardening, sewing and caring for her family. 
 
Survivors include her children, Marion (Ron) Rose, JoAnn (Tom) Vouk, Cathy (Tom) Plantenberg and Virgil (Deborah Paine-Hesse); brother, Ken (Lorrie) Bruner; son-in-law, Mark LaPlante Sr.; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Sr.; children, Nancy LaPlante and Francis Hesse; grandson Mark LaPlante Jr. and one great-granddaughter.

Arrangements are with the Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring.
