A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring for Arnold P. “Arnie” Olmscheid, age 89 of Waite Park and formerly of St. Cloud who passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the St. Cloud Veteran Affairs Medical Center. Reverend Isaiah Frederick, OSB officiated. Interment took place at the parish cemetery with military honors.
Arnie was born on September 7, 1928 in Cold Spring, Minnesota to Peter and Elizabeth (Mondloch) Olmscheid. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He married Marion Stock on September 21, 1953 and they later divorced. Arnie later married Joni Wedl on June 18, 1975. He was employed by Peters Market in Cold Spring, Border State Paving in Detroit Lakes; he owned and operated Arnie’s Used Market in Thief River Falls and he did maintenance at St. Scholastica Convent in St. Cloud until his retirement in 1997. Arnie served on the Cold Spring Fire Department for 16 years and City Council for eight years. He was a member of the Cold Spring American Legion Post #455.
Arnie liked spending time at his cabin on Big Fish Lake, joking around and getting the last laugh.
Arnie is survived by his children, Jean (Steve) Murgic of Rosemount, Jim (Brenda) of Cold Spring, John of Minneapolis and Jane (Gary) Theilen of Waite Park; five grandchildren, Katie, Nick, Neil, Reed and Danny; one sister, Irene Schwinghammer of Waite Park.
Arnie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joni; four brothers, Celestine “Pete”, Ralph, Don and an infant brother; three sisters, Fran Peters-Paul, Genevieve Ryan and Eileen Janey.
