Isabelle Marie Cebulla Durenberger
Minneapolis
August 9, 1911 – December 24, 2008
Passed away December 24th in her residence at Catholic Eldercare in Minneapolis where she lived the last nine years with loving caregivers. Isabelle was born to Ferdinand J. (Fred) Cebulla, master car builder with the Great Northern Railway, and Josephine (Jessie) Pukropp Cebulla in Great Falls, MT. August 9, 1911. She lived in Superior, WI, attended Duluth Cathedral High School, the College of St. Benedict's, and graduated St. Theresa's College in Winona in 1932. She taught business in the Gillette, WI high school until she married George Gephard Durenberger, and moved to St. John's University where he was Athletic Director and coach until his 1972 retirement. George passed away in March 1997 at 90. Isabelle spent many years on the staff at St. John's and in church and community service. She helped found the St. John's University Alumni Association and the St. Cloud Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She loved to travel and visit her many Polish relatives.
Isabelle is survived by five children, David F. (and Susan B Foote) of St. Paul, Constance J. of Sussex, WI, George Mark (and Barbara) of Edina, Thomas (and Barbara) of Mesquite, NV., and Mary (and John) McLeod of Oklahoma City, OK. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. An internment service will be held at 10 AM Saturday January 3rd, at St. John’s Abbey Church with internment at the St. John's Abbey Cemetery in Collegeville. A celebratory gathering will follow at St. John the Baptist Parish Center. Memorials are preferred to Catholic ElderCare at 817 Main Street NE, Minneapolis, MN. 55413. Nicholas H. Heinen, age 97
St. Martin
November 26, 1911 – December 28, 2008
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2009 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin, MN for Nicholas H. Heinen, age 97, who died Sunday at the Koronis Manor, Paynesville. Burial will be in the St. Martin Parish Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 9 – 10:30 a.m. Friday morning in the St. Martin Parish Hall, St. Martin.
Nick was born in St. Martin Township, MN to Hubert and Margaret (Burg) Heinen. He farmed northwest of St. Martin until his retirement at the age of 80. Nick played in the St. Martin band for many years, was a member of the church choir. He liked playing cards, bowling, playing the piano and trombone. Nick was a member of the St. Martin Parish, Knights of Columbus and the St. Benedict-St. Joseph Society. He was dearly loved by his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his 15 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 sisters
and 2 brothers; 1 niece and 3 nephews.
Mary Jane Hentges, 86
Eden Valley

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2008, at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley, for Mary Jane Hentges, 86, of Eden Valley, who died on Tuesday at Assumption Home in Cold Spring. Friends and Family may call from 4-9 p.m. on Friday, December 26th and after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Eden Valley. Reverend Virgil Braun will officiate and burial will be at St. Peter?s Cemetery in Eden Valley. Eden Valley American Legion Auxiliary Post 381 will pray at 6:00 p.m., followed by Assumption Christian Women at 6:30 p.m., and parish prayers at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mary Jane was born on November 25, 1922 to the late John and Katherine (Hennen) Becker in Hillman. She married Gilbert Hentges on February 17, 1947 at St. Peter?s Catholic Church in Eden Valley. Mary Jane was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in rural Watkins for 16 years until they moved to Richmond in 1965 where they farmed until retiring in1980. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Assumption Christian Women and Eden Valley American Legion Auxiliary Post 381.
Mary Jane is survived by her children, Linda (Lew) Hooser of Cold Spring, Patricia (Donald) Klein of New Richmond, WI, Charlene (Ron) Hickerson of Elk River, Gary (Anita) Hentges of Richmond, and Chuck (Julie) Hentges of Richmond; 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; siblings, Wilfred Becker of Cold Spring, LuVerne Becker of Eden Valley, Ron Becker of Crosby, John Becker of Maple Lake, Donna Lahr of Anaheim, CA and Norbert Becker of Cold Spring. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert on June 1, 1990 and siblings, Margaret Hentges, Ervin Becker, Adeline Fodstad, Caroline Arnold and Delores Pfeil.
Lester Henry Nuhring, age 95
Cold Spring formerly of Grantsburg, WI
August 29, 1913 - December 20, 2008
Lester Henry Nuhring passed away at Assumption Home, Cold Spring, MN, on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at the age of 95. He was born August 29, 1913 in Glenwood, MN to Alfred Henry and Lila Ellen (Morehouse) Nuhring. He married Mary Marek on June 3, 1939 in McLeansboro, IL.
Les’ early years were spent in Grove Lake, MN and the State of Washington where he excelled in school sports. As a young man, one of his occupations was as a laborer in President Roosevelt’s Civil Conservation Corp. Mary and Les raised their family of three sons in Cokato and New Richland, Minnesota where Les worked as a Manager for Pioneer and then United Telephone. When he retired in 1975 after 29+ years with the company, they moved to their cabin on Silver Lake in Grantsburg, WI, where they enjoyed retirement life to the fullest for many years. He and Mary were able to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary in 2004 before she passed away. Les remained at the cabin until October 2007 at which time he moved into Assumption Home, Cold Spring, MN to be closer to family.
Les enjoyed a wide variety of interests which included playing card games, a highlight of which was a “perfect hand” in Cribbage at the age of 92, dice games, gardening, hunting, feeding a variety of birds, fishing year round (including trips to Canada with family and friends), and cheering for the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He was a gifted builder and woodworker and many have enjoyed his expertise and finished creations.
Les is survived by his eldest son, Ronald Nuhring of Aitkin, MN; middle son, Lyle and his wife, Constance (Linnihan) Nuhring of Cold Spring, MN, and youngest son, Daniel and his wife, Lisa (Ritsema) Nuhring of Grantsburg, WI. Les is also survived by six grandchildren: Jodell (Randal) Olson, Jay (Stephanie) Nuhring, Jonathan (Melinda) Nuhring, Timothy Nuhring, Bridget (Jerry) Faber and Christopher Nuhring. His nine great-grandchildren include Anthony (Jessica) Olson, Abigail Olson, Liam Nuhring, Falan Nuhring, Aubrey Nuhring, Camryn Nuhring, Lauren Nuhring, McKenna Faber and Jack Faber. Les also has one great-great grandson, Brody Olson, who he was able to hold in a photograph depicting five generations.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary,
parents, Alfred and Lila Nuhring, his sister,
Gladys Hildegard

Bruce “Bud” Kliedon of Ham Lake died on December 18, 2008.
Preceded in death by mother, Ardella Gassler. Jerome “Jerry” Chesney, age 80
St. Joseph, formerly of Richmond

Jerome “Jerry” Chesney died Saturday December 20, 2008 at Arlington Place in St. Joseph. Jerry was born in Minneapolis to Raymond and Eunice (Helwick) Chesney. He married Mildred Guddal on July 16, 1948 in Minneapolis.
Jerry worked for Stearns Electrical Association for 44 years until his retirement in 1990. He was member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Richmond Rod and Gun Club and the Paynesville Lutheran Church. Arrangements entrusted with the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Millie; son, David (Vicki) of Hancock, MI; grandchildren, Mitchell of Boston, MA and Alexandra of Ithaca, NY; sisters, Jackie Niznik of Columbia Heights and Sandra (Frank) Wallentine, of St. Louis Park.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
Ada T. Schlick, age 96

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 19, 2008 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin, MN for Ada T. Schlick, age 96, who died Monday at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville. Burial will be in the St. Martin Parish Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Martin Parish Center, St. Martin. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Catholic Aid Association, St. Ann’s Christian Women and the Rosary Sodality on Thursday evening. Ada was born in Fort Atkinson, Iowa to Fred and Anna (Tieskoetter) Tekippe. After working as a legal secretary in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she married Edwin Schlick in May 1944, and moved to the Schlick farm in St. Martin, Minnesota. Edwin died in a farm accident in May 1971. Ada married Henry Schlick on December 23, 1974. They spent 33 happy years together.
Ada enjoyed a lifelong writing hobby, including many years as the St. Martin columnist for the Paynesville Press. She was an avid reader and cookbook collector. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing and needlework. She always enjoyed visits from her children and grandchildren – she was happiest when the whole family gathered on weekend nights to enjoy her homemade kuchen (and a little wurst) at the kitchen table.
She served the community in volunteer roles from 4-H leader to parish typist. She was involved in many parish activities throughout her years in St. Martin. She and Henry were active supporters of the St. Martin Lions and enjoyed attending many Lions events. She was a member of St. Martin Parish, St. Ann’s Christian Women, Catholic Aid Association and the Rosary Sodality.
Survivors include her husband, Henry (Koronis Manor); four children, Jim (Sharon) of St. Cloud, Joe (Mary Jo) of St. Martin, John (Loretta) of Willmar and Anne (Gary) Lauer of Hugo; 10 grandchildren, Janet (Richard) Cleveland of Fredericksburg, VA, Kathryn (Jim) McLaren of Farmington, Jill (Quang) Nguyen of Minneapolis, Jennifer (Rob) Miller of Hutchinson, Greg (Mai) Lauer of St. Paul, Tara (Dan) Stevens of Rockville, MD, Steve (Jen) Lauer of Stillwater, Mike Schlick of St. Martin, Katie Schlick of St. Joe, and Cary Schlick of Northfield; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers and sisters; her first husband, Edwin Schlick; and grandchild, Karen.
Elmer J. Eichers, age 90

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Elmer J. Eichers, age 90, who died Friday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Entombment will be in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Monday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring and from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in the Narthex of St. Boniface Church. The Catholic Order of Foresters will pray at 7:30 p.m. followed by Parish Prayers Monday evening at the Wenner Funeral Home.
Elmer was born in Cold Spring, MN to Leo and Hedwig (Leither) Eichers. He married Georgina Thielmann on September 2, 1940 in St. Boniface Church, Cold Spring. Elmer loved and cherished his family. He worked for a few years at the Cold Spring Granite Company, farmed for 17 years before the Lord ‘helped’ him realize he wasn’t a farmer! Elmer was an Insurance Representative for RAM for 25 years and also Wakefield Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. Elmer was ordained a Permanent Deacon on June 21, 1985. During his 17 years as Deacon, he took great joy in the many baptisms and weddings he performed and visiting with shut-ins in the area. Elmer loved visiting with family and friends, whittling, woodworking, writing, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Diocese of St. Cloud Deaconate.

Jean was born in Laporte, MN to Walter and Anna (Johnson) Waltzing. She enjoyed playing cards (500 and Solitaire), embroidery, hunting, fishing and reading Western novels. Jean had two sons from her first marriage, their first names are Dwayne and Michael; last names unknown.
Survivors include her conservator and friend, Jan Zumwalde along with other friends and the staff at Koronis Manor.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband,

Eichers, age 89, of Sauk Rapids, formerly of Cold Spring, who passed away December 6, 2008 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids. Entombment will take place in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. on Friday at the church.
Irene was born February 22, 1919 in Fulda, MN to Frederick and Pauline (Mueller) Tiemens. She married George Marx on January 4, 1937 at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley. He died September 13, 1970. She married Virgil B. Eichers on June 2, 1973 at St. Peter?s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. They lived in the Cold Spring area until 1994 when they moved to Sartell. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Christian Women.
Irene is survived by her husband Virgil, children Marcella (Cel) Thielen of St. Cloud, Kathleen (Chuck) Supplee of Duluth, Albin (Elizabeth) Marx of Pasco, WA, George (Beverly) Marx of Nisswa, Dennis (Kim) Marx of Albertville and Pauline Marx of Dallas, TX, 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great great granddaughters.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband George, two brothers and five sisters and one grandson Tom Thielen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2008 at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Rockville, MN for Dolores Hansen, age 75, who died on Friday surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Rockville.

The Christian Women will pray a rosary at 6:30 p.m. followed by Parish Prayers at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening. Dolores was born in Omaha, NE to Azize and Josephine (Koory) Saidy and was raised in Colorado Springs, CO. She married Charles Hansen, Sr. on September 3, 1955; 6 months after meeting each other, in Colorado Springs, CO. Dolores cherished her family and loved their home full of children. Christmas was her favorite holiday. She enjoyed playing cards (bridge and 500), board games, crossword puzzles, bowling, buying presents, reading, being in the kitchen cooking or baking, visiting with relatives and friends, singing in the choir-she had a beautiful soprano singing voice. She was a member of Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Christian Women and TOPS.

Victor J. Weber, age 94
Cold Spring

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 17, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Victor J. Weber, age 94, who died Thursday at his home. Inurnment will be in the MN State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls.
Gathering of friends will be from 9– 10:30 a.m. Monday morning at St. Boniface Church. Arrangements were entrusted with the Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring.
Vic was born in St. Cloud, MN to Frederick and Margaret (Wolf) Weber. He served in World War II on the U.S.S. Remey DD 688 from 1942-1945. He was the owner, proprietor and “current greeter” of Weber Clothing Store, from 1941 until his retirement. Vic and his “Leader Dog” Charlie were prominent figures as they sat daily on the Lee Theisen Memorial Bench on Main Street. Vic was a Gold Star Parent, a member of St. Boniface Parish, past commander of both the Cold Spring VFW Post 6915, and Cold Spring Legion Post 455, past president of the WWII Last Man’s Club, and Cold Spring Commercial Club, a founding member of the Cold Spring Lions. Vic was a member of the Site Committee for the start up of ROCORI Schools, the Nursing Home committee, and he was instrumental in getting Gold’n Plump Poultry to Cold Spring. He was a true Cold Spring Community Promoter.
Survivors include his children, D. Jean “Sis” of Mpls., Fred of Sartell, Lance (Mary Jo) of Cold Spring and Dina (Bob “Spanky”) Dirkes of Cold Spring, 12 grandchildren and five great- grandchildren; siblings, Francis (Betty) of Albany and Rosemary (Sylvester) Thielman of Forrest Lake; sister-in-law, Juletta Weber of St. Cloud.
He was preceded in death by sons, David (1966) and Patrick (2005); siblings, Edwin, Adrian, Gene (US Navy) and John; great-grandson, Gavin.
Darlene A. Dodge, 69
Cold Spring
Apr. 10, 1939 – Nov. 10, 2008
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday,
November 14 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold
Spring for Darlene (Stein) Dodge, beloved wife, mother,
daughter, grandmother, sister and friend passed peacefully
at 5:25 pm Monday at Assumption Nursing Home, Cold
Spring, after a two-year battle with Non-Hodgkin’s
lymphoma. Her husband and family were at her side.
Interment will be at St. Boniface Cemetery in Cold
Spring.
Friends may visit after 4 p.m. Thursday and from 9
– 10 a.m. Friday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home
in Cold Spring. Parish prayers will be at 4 p.m. Thursday
at the Wenner Funeral Home followed by a rosary with
the Christian Mothers.
Darlene was born April 10, 1939 in Maine Prairie,
Minnesota (now part of Kimball) to Anton and Clara
(Bauer) Stein. She and her two younger sisters grew
up helping their parents run the family farm.
Darlene and Howard Dodge were married October 7, 1961 in Kimball and recently celebrated their 47th anniversary. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish and the Christian Women. After working sixteen years with Early Childhood Family Education in Cold Spring, Darlene retired in 2001. She loved her job and coworkers, but left her job to take care of her husband, who was diagnosed with PSP (progressive supranuclear palsy). She embraced the challenge of caring for him with endless energy and optimism.
In December, 2006, Darlene was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and by May, 2007, it had metastasized to her brain. After brain surgery, she became unable to care for herself. In June, 2007, Darlene and Howard moved into the Assumption Nursing Home, where they shared a room together. Darlene’s illness progressed much faster than Howard’s, and in her final months, Howard returned the love and support that Darlene had given him, holding her hand as she suffered the effects of chemotherapy, radiation treatment, and the tumors themselves.
Together, Darlene and Howard lived a life of boundless
love, devotion, and generosity toward each other and
their family. Darlene’s gentle spirit, her kindness,
and ability to see the goodness in life will be greatly
missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Dodge of Cold
Spring; children, Daniel (Heidi) of Monticello, Toni
(Randy) Scheper of Lakeville, Steven (Marcia) of
St. Louis Park, Joseph (Stephanie) of Oregon City,
Oregon, Robert (Debbie) of Coon Rapids, Kenneth (Heike)
of Little Falls, and Tammy (Brian) Ecker of North
Mankato; and seventeen grandchildren; mother, Clara
Stein of Kimball; sisters, Laura (Barry) Hanson of
Annandale, and Rosella “Sally” (John) Decker of Cold
Spring; numerous nieces and nephews; and loyal friend,
Maxine Backes of Cold Spring.
Darlene was preceded in death by her father, Anton
Stein, and niece, Susan “Suzie” Decker.

Larry was born in Cold Spring, MN to Peter and Elizabeth (Schmitt) Minnerath. He married Clara Blonigen on September 6, 1955 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Richmond. Larry served in the Civilian Conservation Core Camps and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked in the road construction business most of his life. Larry founded Minnerath Construction in 1955 and was self-employed until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends at his riverfront home. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Knights of Columbus, Cold Spring American Legion, VFW and Disabled American Veterans.

He served two years in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Willy worked at Burlington Northern Railroad for 34 years never missing a day of work! He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and his grandchildren.

Jim was born in Richmond, MN to William and Mary (Ludwig) Wolf. He married Joanne Niehoff on June 6, 1959 in New Munich, MN. They had four children and made their home in St. Michael-Albertville and later Cold Spring.
He enjoyed working for REO Plastics, Inc. in Maple Grove, MN for nearly 40 years. In that time, due to his loyalty, ingenuity and work ethic, he worked his way up to Vice President of Second Operations. Though his character was humble, his actions were that of a true champion. No challenge was too tough, no problem too hard and no obstacle too big. Jim could figure out anything. He loved life at the lake, fishing was his passion. He enjoyed the woods and the water, they brought him much joy, peace and serenity. He was a jack of all trades in the garage, home and yard. With a smirk and a “thank you” he let those around the card table know that he had a good hand. Always looking for a new adventure, he recently became an “expert” in making maple syrup; he cherished his time with his brothers. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone, he loved helping people. His happiness and positive outlook on life were contagious; he made everyone feel special and accepted. He loved so many, but nearest to his heart was his family. He looked out for them in everyway, and was always so proud of each of them. He was a mentor to many, especially his children.
He was a member of the Church of St. John the Baptist Parish in Collegeville.

Michael loved and cherished his family. Michael farmed the family farm until his retirement in 1987 when he moved to Cold Spring where he continued his favorite hobbies of welding and fishing. He also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, traveling, telling jokes and watching his kids and grandkids play ball. He was a member of St. Nicholas Parish, St. Nicholas Men’s Society, Catholic Aid Society, St. Cloud Aeire 622 and a member of the local Knights of Columbus.

Earl was born in Watkins, MN to William and Applonia (Jungles) Kaufman. He married Rosemary Gross on June 5, 1948 in St. Anthony Church, Watkins, MN. Earl loved and cherished his family. He served in the United States Army from 1944–1946 during WWII. Earl fought in the Battle of the Bulge in Europe and received the Bronze Star. Earl retired in 1989 from the Cold Spring Granite Company where he started out as a stone cutter and retired as a supervisor. After retirement he was a volunteer driver for Tri-Cap. Earl received much pleasure in helping others. Earl and Rosie were chairpersons of the St. Boniface 100 yr. Centennial Celebration in 1978 when the annual festival parade was begun. Earl volunteered his time and talent to handcut the stones to build the Assumption Chapel. For 54 years on August 15th for the Feast of the Assumption Mass the Kaufmans placed cut gladiolas at the Assumption Grasshopper Chapel in Cold Spring. He liked being outside, “putzing” and enjoyed collecting things. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish, St. Joseph’s Society, Catholic Aid Association, Knights of Columbus, Cold Spring VFW, Waite Park American Legion and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Rockville, MN for John J. Seelen age 81, who died Friday at the Golden Living Center – Otter Tail Lake in Battle Lake, Minnesota. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m. on Monday at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring and from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Church in Rockville. Parish Prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus Rosary Monday evening at the funeral home.
John was born in Little Falls, Minnesota to John and Alice (Assmussen) Seelen. While he was a teenager he was under the foster care of Richard and Martha Janski and Eddie and Hilda Buemer. John served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1953 in Boelingen, West Germany where he married Inge H. Lausmann in July of 1953. John owned and operated Big John’s Excavating in Rockville and together with Inge they operated the Vienna Haus Restaurant in Rockville during the 1960’s. In 1974 they purchased the Rockville General Store which later became IHS Antiques. John enjoyed delivering the Shopping News for over 20 years. He was a member of Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife Inge, children, Rita (Ken ) Seelen-Hora, Chuck (Peg), Renate (Bill) Schaefer, and Greg (Tami); grandchildren, Erica Hemmesch, Joe Hemmesch, Priya Hora, and Jon, Emily, and Chris Seelen; one great-grandson Nolan Hemmesch; siblings, Phyllis Hoskins, Nels Olson, Reverend Harley Holden, Patricia Bandimere, Joyce Singleton, Shirley Stutzman, Marilyn Edwards, Beverly Setterstrom and Shirley Dietrich.

Don was born in Monticello, MN to Wilson and Cecelia (Heinzel) Denn. He married Erma Rossman on September 22, 1949 in St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Cloud. Don served in the Unites States Army from 1944–1946. He received the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, American Theater Ribbon, the Overseas Service Bar, a Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal for the European African-Middle-Eastern Theater Ribbon with 3 bronze battle stars. Don loved and cherished his family and especially enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s events. He retired from the Cold Spring Granite Company after 36 years. Don enjoyed building or fixing anything, fishing, gardening, and the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He was a member and supporter of St. Boniface Parish and Grade School, St. Joseph’s Society, and the Cold Spring American Legion and VFW. Don was a scout leader with the Boy Scouts Troop15, receiving the St. George Medal in 1981.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Erma; children, Jodi (Mal) Reiter of St. Cloud, Bonnie (Larry) Jones of Reelsville, IN, Debra (Daniel) Schroeder of Cold Spring, Dayna (Paul) Dreis of Mazomaine, WI, Charles (Michelle Bieniek) Denn of South Haven; 5 grandchildren; brother, Franklin Denn of Monticello.

Leona was born on December 25, 1920 in Spring Hill, MN to Joseph and Catherine (Nietfield) Miller. She married John M. Mehr on November 18, 1940 in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spring Hill, MN. She worked on the farm with her husband north of Paynesville for many years. She enjoyed quilting and sewing, flower and vegetable gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Leona belonged to the St. Martin Christian Women, Daughters of Isabella, St. Benedicts Rosary Society, Crosier Apostolate, and Mission Circle.

Nick was born in St. Nicholas, MN to William and Catherine (Stein) Johannes. He married Marcella Bolfing on June 27, 1938, she died December 24, 1962. On May 2, 1969 he married Helen Maile Senart, she died on June 23, 1989. Nick loved and cherished his family. He served in CCC camps in Bena Area. Nick worked for Cold Spring Granite, owned and operated a restaurant in Paynesville, farmed in the Cold Spring area and retired from working at the Cold Spring Brewery. Nick enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing cards, bowling, welding, cutting wood, woodworking and the Minnesota Twins. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Roman was born in Richmond, MN to Paul and Theresa (Fienhage) Braegelmann. He married Bertha Schlangen on August 31, 1955 in Richmond. Roman loved and cherished his family. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Roman was a lifelong farmer in Cold Spring retiring in 2001. He had a knack for ‘story telling’ and enjoyed playing cards and fishing. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Cold Spring American Legion, Catholic Aid Association and the St. James Men’s Society.

Dorothy was born in Yankton, SD to Oscar and Cora (Engen) Haugen. She married Jacob Kirschmann on October 11, 1947 in Rapid City, SD. Dorothy worked in retail sales at Oppgrands in Bismark for many years. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers; sewing, fishing, ceramics, crafts and reading.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Jacob; children, Brad (Gerry) of Richmond, Beth (Jerry) Peterson of Sartell and Danny (Bev) of Sandy Valley, NV; grandchildren, Brad, Jr., Courtney and Eddie; sisters, Margie Shoenhart of Rapid City, SD and Ione Preston of Sioux Falls, IA and many nieces and nephews.

Jean was born in Alexandria, MN to Paul and Ella (Hedstrom) Wilcox. She married James Dockendorf on April 4, 1959. Jean loved and cherished her family, spending time with her grandchildren was her pride and joy. She worked as an x-ray tech at Paynesville Clinic and North Clinic in Mpls. Jean worked 25 years at the Assumption home in many areas; laundry, activities and as a nurses aid. For the last 6 years she volunteered doing many things at the John Paul Apartments. She enjoyed gardening, canning, reading, cross word puzzles, embroidery and the MN Twins! She was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Catholic Aid Association and Christian Women.

George was born April 3, 1923 in Richmond to Jacob & Marie (Nistler) Ruprecht. He married Angela Dehn on June 27, 1946 in Rogers. She died on April 1, 1992 and he then married Mary Dombrovski on September 16, 1995 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. George lived in Eden Valley most all of his life and was a farmer for 20 years, he also worked at Cold Spring Granite Company for 15 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church where he was active in Catholic Aide, St. Joseph's Society and the cemetery board. He was also a member of Eden Valley Senior Citizens, Cold Spring American Legion Post 455, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 622 of St. Cloud. George was an Air Force Veteran of WWII.

Amanda was born in Farming, MN to Gregor and Cecilia (Behnen) Wieber. She married Christopher Blonigen on June 23, 1953 in St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Farming. Amanda was a farm housewife and raised 11 children. She sewed most of the children’s clothes. In her later years she sewed pot holders. Amanda also enjoyed singing in the church choir, gardening and canning. She was a member of St. Martin Parish, Christian Women and the Catholic Aid Association. Alzheimer’s may have taken Amanda from us, but not our many fond memories of her.

Wendelin was a dairy farmer and he enjoyed gardening, fishing, deer hunting and playing cards. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish.

He enjoyed baseball, softball, fishing, traveling, and mowing grass in retirement! He was a member of St. Martin Parish, St. Joseph’s Society. Knights of Columbus, St. Martin Lions, Albany American Legion, and a former member of the St. Martin Baseball Team (1956-1962).

Bertha Fuechtmann was born May 28, 1913 in Melrose to Frank and Elizabeth (Gramke) Wielenberg.' She was a graduate of Sauk Centre High School and Teacher's College. On February 6, 1934 she married Henry J. Fuechtmann Sr. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple farmed north of Melrose.' After Henry's death in 1968, she continued farming with the assistance of her son, Henry Jr.' She moved to Sauk Centre in 1977, when Henry Jr. purchased the farm.' She enjoyed her retirement years gardening, canning, and driving her scooter around town.' She moved to rural Grey Eagle in 1998, where she again put her farming experience to use feeding the chickens and picking eggs.' In 2006, she moved to Long Prairie and lived with her daughter, Arlene.
Bertha was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers, and Sts. Bernard & Elizabeth Council.' She enjoyed gardening, reading, working on puzzles, quilting, and watching her favorite game show, Wheel of Fortune.

Gordon “Bud” Chappuis, age 67 of Faribault, passed away Monday, June 23, 2008 at his home in Shieldsville Township surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Shieldsville. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault.
Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to services. Memorials may be directed to the choice of the donor. Arrangements are with the Parker Kohl Funeral Home of Faribault.
Gordon Alfred Chappuis, the son of Alfred and Ellen (Chavie) Chappuis, was born on December 10, 1940 on his family’s farm in Shieldsville Township, Rice County. He graduated from Faribault High School with the class of 1959. He was married to Janice Dienst on October 12, 1963 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Faribault. Bud was a lifelong farmer on the family homestead in Shieldsville, which has been a part of his family for five generations.

Joey was born in Paynesville, MN to Berthold and Arcella (Lenz) Lieser. He married Norine Imdieke on September 4, 1965 in St. John’s Catholic Church, Meire Grove, MN. Joey loved and cherished his family and will be most remembered for his ability to joke, tease and have a good time! Joey and Norine farmed together on the family farm west of St. Martin. He enjoyed playing cards especially “Schafskopf”, deer hunting, baseball and softball. Joey was a member of St. Martin Parish, St. Joseph’s Men’s Society, Catholic Aid Association and Paynesville Knights of Columbus.

Ingeborg Schmidt (nee Kress) of Richmond, died on June 20, 2008 after a long illness. Born on June 29, 1920 in Tallinn, Estonia, she and her family immigrated from Germany to Paynesville in 1956 and moved to Richmond in 1959.
She was preceded in death by husband Herbert Juergen. She is survived by children Beate Krinke (Douglas), Andrea (Richard Rolling), Herbert J. Jr. (Debora Slee), five grandchildren (Sonia, Mara, Maren, Britta, Peter) and one great-grandchild (Trevor). Arrangements by the Cremation Society of Minnesota with a private family memorial service.
Gilbert “Gil” Buchheit, age 71

Gil was born in Festina, IA to Hubert and Irma (Moellers) Buchheit. He married Catherine Massmann on April 29, 1961 in Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, Rockville, MN. Gil graduated in 1955 from Calmer High School, Calmer, Iowa. He enlisted in the United States Army from 1956-1958 and spent 18 months in Guam. Gil worked at the Sartell Paper Mill for 32 years and was a member of the United Paper Workers International Union Local 274 and held Trustee and Stewart positions. He retired in 1999. Gil enjoyed the MN State Fair where he was on the ‘Mounted Patrol’ for 11 years. Gil and Cathy looked forward to spending winters in Donna, TX. He enjoyed hobby farming but his real joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and his horses. Gil was a member of Mary of Immaculate Conception Parish, Rockville Lions, where he received the Melvin Jones Fellowship award in 2008. He was an active member of the Rocky Riders Saddle Club of Cold Spring and the Winneshiek Saddle Club of Decorah Iowa, 4H Leader, lecturer, usher and board member for Project Astride.
Survivors include his loving wife, Cathy; daughter, Kelly (Dan) Willard of St. Cloud and son, Troy (Janis) Buchheit of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Clay and Mitch Willard, Lindsey and Cody Buchheit; sister, Rosa Kay Jensen of Rochester and many in-laws; nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008 at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring, MN for Alice Blum, age 88, who died at the Assumption Home in Cold Spring. Burial will be in the St. James Parish Cemetery, Jacobs Prairie.
A gathering of friends will be one hour prior to the service in the Wenner Funeral Home on Thursday morning.
Alice was born in Belgrade, MN to John and Helen Strodtman. She married August Blum on October 1, 1938 in Belgrade, MN. Alice was a miracle baby; being born at 2 pounds in the 1920’s was very uncommon. She was a survivor. Alice shared her love of life with her family and friends any chance she could. She volunteered many hours of her time in the Cold Spring area, especially at the Assumption Nursing Home. Alice enjoyed quilting, baking and playing bingo. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and many other area organizations.
Survivors include her children and their families, James (Barbara) of Houston, TX along with their son, Roman (Silvia) and children- Yasmina and Zoie, their daughter, Myriah (Mike) Davis; daughter-in-law, Ruth (+David) of Deerwood and her son, Samuel (Brandy) and children, Noah and Neven, and daughter, Katy (Nic) Hentges and Hannah.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, August; son, David and her siblings.

Lee was born in Eden Valley, MN to John and Gertrude (Nistler) Ludwig. He married Rita Schreifels on March 4, 1946 in St. Boniface Catholic Church, Cold Spring. Lee served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater from 1942-1945. He farmed in the St. Nicholas area all his life. Lee loved spending time with his family, playing cards, fishing and taking trips to Duluth to watch the ships. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish, St. Nicholas Men’s Society, Catholic Aid Association and a life member of Cold Spring American Legion and VFW.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Rita; children, John (Sandra) of Waite Park, Sharon (Tom) Steil of St. Joseph, Paul (Trish) of St. Nicholas, Judy (Terry) Czech of Cold Spring and Bob (Julie) of Waconia; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers-in-law and 1 sister-in-law.

Loretta graduated from St. Catherine’s School of Nursing in 1992 and worked at Minneapolis Children’s Hospital retiring in May 2007. She enjoyed her family, friends and sports. Loretta was a member of St. Martin Catholic Aid Association, the Eagles Club and was the president of the Minneapolis USBC (United States Bowling Congress).

Fred was born on May 21, 1907, in Heron Lake, MN, to William and Catherine (Schulte) Albers. He married Rose M. Michels on July 17, 1928 in Cold Spring. Fred and Rose farmed in Rockville Township beginning in 1932 and Fred also worked at Franklin Manufacturing, retiring in 1971. Fred was an avid fisherman and deer hunter; he enjoyed gardening and traveling. He was a member of St. Wendelins Catholic Church, the International Association of Machinists, and the Cold Spring Catholic Order of Foresters.
Fred is survived by: his children, Fred Jr. (Mary Ann) of St. Cloud, Kenneth (Hermie) of Luxemburg, Rollie (Renee) of Luxemburg, Rosemary (Larry) Hinkemeyer of Mt. Joanne M. Schramel died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley. Joanne Schramel was born on Nov. 22, 1943 at Watkins, the daughter of Greg and Loretta (Wortz) Ertl. She is a 1961 graduate of St. Boniface High School in Cold Spring and after graduation received her dental assistant degree. She married Martin Schramel in June of 1964 at Watkins. Joanne loved to shop, bake, watch her flowers grow and enjoyed a trip to play the slot machines. She was a loving wife, mother and grandma. She endured much pain and suffering the last year of her life and lost her courageous fight on May 25, 2008.
She is survived by her husband, Martin Schramel of Eden Valley; children, Paul Schramel of St. Cloud, Jodi Schramel of Shakopee, Pam (Tom) Kurtz of Waconia, Becky Schramel of Eden Valley; grandchildren, Katherine, Kylie and Ryan Kurtz; sisters, Pat (Larry) Hartkopf of Becker, Carol (Jim) Lennox of Kimball; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, MaryLou Theis and Mark (Dawn) Schramel of Eden Valley, Cyndi Bemboom of Mayhew Lake.

Carol was born May 30th, 1940 in Morrison County, Minnesota to Benjamin and Irene (Ellis) Brummer. She married John 'Jack' Wieber on August 11, 1962 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond. She was a resident of St. Cloud most of her married life. Carol was an x-ray technician for the Women's and Children's Clinic, and later was a buyer for the Children's Dept. at Fandels Dept. Store. She earned her elementary teaching degree at SCSU in 1989.
Carol was a beautiful woman with a lot of style. She had impeccable taste for clothing and decorating and often made her own outfits as well as those for her children. Carol was a creative cook who took pride in the dishes she served. She enjoyed travel and her favorite places include Williamsburg, VA, and Coronado, CA. Her appreciation for nature led her to explore the many state parks and trails across Minnesota.

Stanley was born in Millington, TN to Mathias “Snuffy” and Doris (Schneider) Smith. Stanley worked for Burlington Northern for many years. He enjoyed hunting fishing and baseball.

Wayne was born in Paynesville, MN to Robert and Alice (Johnson) Schreifels. He served in the United States Army for three years stationed in Mainz, Germany. Wayne was a self employed carpet layer prior to his motorcycle accident in 1995. He enjoyed playing Texas Holdem, fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time with family and friends and his beloved dog Buddy. He was a member of the Catholic Aid Association.

Leander was born in Pearl Lake, MN to Pius and Eva (Schreiber) Wicker. He married Walburga Kunkel on June 5, 1943 in Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pearl Lake. Leander currently owned and operated Wicker’s Whispering Pines Resort. He retired from dairy farming and enjoyed, gardening, cooking, baking and visiting with friends and campers. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Knights of Columbus and Cold Spring Area Maennerchor.

Jerry was born in New Munich, MN to Paul and Dorine (Roering) Sand. He married Diann Blasius on June 14, 1969 in Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Richmond. Jerry was a well-known carpenter and woodworker in Central Minnesota. His attention to detail and creativity with special and unique projects is what he will be remembered most for. Jerry enjoyed fishing and being among great friends and family. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, Catholic Aid Association, Army Reserves and Richmond American Legion.

William Richard Kaufman, 55, Springfield, died on Sunday, April 20, 2008, in Cox South Hospital from natural causes. He was born January 1, 1953 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Earl and Rosemary (Gross) Kaufman. Bill graduated from ROCORI High School, Cold Spring, MN in 1971 and from St. Johns University in Collegeville, MN in 1975. He married Mary O’Donnell on April 7, 1978. Bill was a self-employed Insurance Agent. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Anne’s Council # 698, and Pope St. Pius X Assembly 1877.

Prior to moving to Cold Spring, Florence and Ervin were very involved in the Woodrow Wilson VFW in Minneapolis.
Survivors include many special relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ervin in 1992.

Forever missed by wife, Evelyn Larson Brodie; children, Barbara (Ronald) Erickson, Stephen (Linda) and Dean (Christina); grandchildren, Andy (Lindsay), Amber, Jason (Jennifer), Dr. Emily (Jon), Cicely (Tom), Kelly, Betsy and Simon and 3 great-grandchildren. Woodie was loved by family and friends for his wisdom, wit and determination.

Gordon John Schlichting, age 68, formerly of Deer Creek, passed away on April 4, 2008 at his home in rural Wadena, Minnesota. He was born on August 14, 1939 to Paul and Elsie Schlichting in Wadena.
Gordon was united in marriage with Luella Mae Scofield on August 23, 1958 in Hewitt. He was involved with 4-H, Boy Scouts, the Rice Creek and the North Dakota Hunting Dog Clubs, and the National Guard for 8 years. Gordon was a lifetime member of the community and retired from the United Parcel Service after 32 years. He enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, dog training and woodworking.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Kriste and Kerry; and brother, Vernon Schlichting. He is survived by his wife; son, Gordon John (Marlene) Schlichting II; grandchildren, Brent, Phillip and Jason; mother-in-law, Bertha Scofield of Wadena; brother-in-law, Allen Scofield of Garfield; son-in-law, Joel (Sue) Brandvold of St. John, ND; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She retired from Stearns County Social Services where she worked for many years. She volunteered at many nursing homes providing musical entertainment.
Lou was Past President and Life member of the VFW Post 428 Auxiliary and active in the Women of the Moose where she currently served as Regent. She was a member of the American Legion Unit 428 Auxiliary. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Christian Women, Catholic Aid, active in Marriage Encounter and sang in the funeral choir. She was past President of both the Good Sam's Club Cloudy Town Chapter and of Guys and Dolls Square Dance Club. She was also a member of the Square Dance Federation, Polka Lovers Club, Heartland Polka Swingers and MN State Square Dance Association.
Lou is survived by her husband Don of St. Cloud, children Mary Jo (Tom) Froehle of Littleton, CO, Jim (Lynn) Huberty of Rice and Tom Huberty of Otsego, three grandchildren Nick and Mikaila Froehle and Matthew Huberty, brothers and sisters Alvin (Millie) Hennen of St. Joseph, Eileen (Norm) Scherer of St. Cloud, Doreen (Ken) Rooney of Waite Park, Marena (Arnie) Eisenschenk of Cold Spring, Donna (Lee) Eisenschenk of Millbank, SD and Shirley (Roger) Nistler of Cold Spring.

Ag was a sacristan at St. Boniface Church for many years and was a recipient of the Bishop’s Service Medal. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Christian Women, St. Julian’s Mission Group and the Cold Spring American Legion Auxiliary.

Mildred was born in Watkins, MN to Henry and Susie (Mies) Donnay. She married Vincent Konz on June 20, 1946, in Watkins. Mildred loved and cherished her family and will be remembered for her friendly smile and quiet way. She was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing, camping, coupon clipping, gardening, cooking and baking. You would often find her “chit chatting” with people at the Nursing Home. Mildred enjoyed the time she spent volunteering with the Red Cross Bloodmobile and being an Election Judge in Cold Spring. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Christian Women, Catholic Aid Association and Cold Spring American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children, Steve (Dee) of Columbia, TN, Sue Meyer of Sauk Rapids, Diane Stomberg of Owatonna, Linda (Art) Zulawski of Foley, Margie Konz of Waite Park, Rob (Kathy) of Cold Spring and Doug (Diana) of Albany; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Norbert Donnay and Walter Donnay; sisters, Louise VanNurden, Maryann Nething and Dorothy Anderson.

Lucile E. Hough, age 89, of Ferndale, WA, died on
Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the home of her daughter
and son-in law, Mary Lou and Harry Pardue, with whom
she lived. Lucile was a former resident of Paynesville
and Cold Spring, Minnesota.
Lucile (Lou) Hough was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan
on March 7, 1919, to Frank and Mary (Trepanier) Gendron.
She was married to Merel G. Hough on August 7, 1943
in Iron Mountain, Michigan. They moved to Minnesota
where Merel was a teacher and Principal at Paynesville
High School and Rocori High School. Lou was a Merchandise
Associate at J. C. Penney Company at Iron Mountain,
Michigan, prior to her marriage and some years later
resumed that position at St. Cloud, Minnesota, retiring
in 1984.
Lou was a member of the Paynesville Hospital Auxiliary, Paynesville Booklovers Club, and a charter and 20 year member of the Cold Spring Lioness Club. She volunteered many hours for school events and programs in both Paynesville and Cold Spring. After moving to Lafayette, Indiana in 1994 to be closer to her daughter, she belonged to the Home Hospital Auxiliary volunteering weekly in the Medical Records Dept. She crocheted countless baby blankets for the hospital's Perinatal Grief Support Program.
Lou moved to Ferndale, WA, in 2004, when her daughter and son-in-law retired there. She enjoyed her family, growing flowers, bird watching, crocheting, and quilting. Her family has many of her beautiful afghans and quilts as memories.
She was preceded in death by Merel, her husband of 49 years in 1992, her parents, Frank and Mary Gendron, brothers Frank, Joseph, Charles and Albert Gendron, sister Doris Tedeschi, two infant daughters, and son-in-law, Dennis Schultz. She is survived by her daughter Mary Lou Pardue (Harry), grandsons Brian Schultz, Chicago, IL, Michael Schultz, Lafayette, IN, step-grandson Jonathan Pardue (Kris), Sultan WA, great-grandsons Nicholas and Philip Pardue, and great-granddaughter Madisyn Schultz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Boniface
Church, Cold Spring, MN at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday,
April 12. A gathering of family and friends will follow

Matt served in the Unites States Army during World War II. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad and farmed his whole life. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, gardening, spending time in his orchard, traveling and most of all, his family. He was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Catholic Aid Association, Cold Spring Knights of Columbus #5344, Kimball American Legion #261, St. John’s Men’s Society of Pearl Lake and NARVRE.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rosie; children, Bernie (Karen), Jerry (Linda), Sue (Dave) Gill, Keith (Deb), Marlene (Mark) Goenner, Patty (Ray) Loehlein, Mary (Brian) Gohmann, Audrey (Jim) Gustafson and Bob (Melanie); 23 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Beckrich and Mary (Meinie) Nies; sister-in-law, Ione Koltes.

Lena was born in Collegeville Township, MN to Robert and Mary (Roske) Kalla. She married Herman Meemken on June 4, 1935 in St. John’s Abbey Church, Collegeville, MN. The couple moved to the Richmond area after their marriage where she lived until 1989, when she moved to the Good Shepherd Apartments. On July 11, 2007 she moved to the Good Shepherd Nursing Home at the age of 98. One of her greatest joys was fishing for food and in her later years, for enjoyment. Lena did a lot of gardening work and quilt making. She also enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Lena prayed many rosaries daily; especially for the past 25 years. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, Christian Women and Catholic Aid Association.

Honey was born in Worcester, MA to Herbert and Margaret (Shea) Richardson. She married John “Jack” Wittock on August 14, 1948 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Worcester, MA. They moved to Iron Mountain, MI in 1950 and lived there until 1997, which is the year they moved to Richmond, MN. Four years later, in 2001, Honey became a Cold Spring resident and has been here for seven years. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish for the past 11 years. For many years she belonged to the Lady Lion’s Club, was a Den Mother for Boy Scouts, was always in attendance at her family’s activities, and a member of the St. Boniface Christian Women.
Among her family and friends she was fondly referred to as Honey, Auntie Honey and Gramma Honey. This nickname of “Honey” was given to her as a small child, which was very fitting to her sweet, loving and sincere personality! Her greatest pleasure in life was the time she spent with her family members. She always looked forward to family gatherings, especially getting to spend time with her dear grandchildren, whom she loved so dearly! We will certainly miss her, but will always treasure the memories we made being together throughout our lives.
Being a devoted wife, a loving Mom, a warm and caring Gramma and Aunt was her ‘job’ here on earth. Her hobbies include being very artistic in drawings, floral arrangements and ceramics, reading, crocheting, knitting, traveling and shopping. If you knew her, there was probably a time she prayed for you, as a devout Catholic, she sure believed in the power of prayer.

Lawrence was born in Eden Valley, MN to Matthew and Christina (Oster) Dockendorf. He married Pauline Meyer on April 11, 1944 in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Richmond, MN. Lawrence was a mechanic at Cold Spring Granite Company for 30+ years. He loved fishing, playing cards and dancing. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish, St. Joseph’s Society, Cold Spring American Legion. Lawrence was an usher for St. Boniface Church, volunteered at the John Paul Apartments and Assumption Nursing Home for many years.

Norb married Dolores Machtmes and they farmed south of Richmond for 20 years and later divorced. Norb eventually moved to Park Rapids and enjoyed the “up-north” lifestyle and retired from Central Specialties of Alexandria after 10 years of employment. Norb enjoyed life outdoors; hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, gardening, working with his sawmill and wood projects. What he looked forward to most was spending time with his grandchildren and socializing with family and friends. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, Knights of Columbus, Richmond American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeire #622 of St. Cloud.

Ronald J. Hansen was born on October 14, 1977 in Woodland, CA, the son of Norman and Kathy Bogatzki. He attended Kimball High School and then lived in Cold Spring, MN. He met Kandi Johnson and together they moved to Alexandria in 2005. They were united in marriage on May 20, 2006 in the city of Granite Falls, MN. He worked as a semi-truck driver for the last six years.
Ronald loved his wife and family. He was always there to lend a helping hand or offer a suggestion to solve someones problem. He enjoyed being outdoors and working on the semi-truck with his best friend Mike. He also enjoyed hunting and ice fishing with Mike. He liked playing his Playstation and spending time with his nieces and nephews. Ronald was a loving husband, son, and big brother. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Ronald John Hansen died on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the age of 30 years old, as a result of a semi-truck accident. Delton Henry “Del” Becker, 55 of Florence died on Sunday, March 9, 2008. He was born on May 28, 1952 in Watkins, Minnesota to William and Frances (Eichers) Becker.
He graduated from Kimball High School, in Kimball,
Minnesota in 1970. He and Dorothy Rita Decker were
married on May 2, 1980 at Cold Spring, MN.
Del was chairman of Ducks Unlimited of the Bitterroot
Valley, Catholic Order of Foresters and a lifetime
member of National Rifle Association. He loved hunting,
fishing and golfing.
His parents and two brothers Daryl and David preceded
him in death.
His wife Dorothy of Florence; two daughters, Cynthia
Becker and financs’ Kevin Harms of Omaha, Nebraska,
Jennifer Becker of Bozeman, survive him. Brothers,
Duane (Jelda) Becker and Dennis Becker and a sister-in-law,
Deb Becker all of Kimball, Minnesota; Also surviving
are 31 nieces and nephews.

Hortense was born in Holdingford, MN to Nicholas and Amanda (Thull) Terhaar. She was a nurse in both World War II and the Korean War. Hortense retired from the St. Cloud Veterans Hospital where she was a nurse and an instructor. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish, St. Cloud Hospital Nurses Association and the Veterans Hospital Nurses Association. Hortense appreciated her involvement with St. Boniface Parish prayer groups.

Helen was a loving wife and mother of seven. Helen and Edwin farmed in Farming for years before retiring to Richmond and she lived the past two years at Arlington Place, St. Joseph, MN. She gifted us with her gardening, bread baking, canning, quilting and great housekeeping. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Ida H. Higgins, age 93, who died Thursday at the Assumption Nursing Home, Cold Spring. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning in the Narthex of St. Boniface Church, Cold Spring. Arrangements were entrusted with the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.
Ida was born in Richmond, MN to Matthew and Elizabeth (Rothstein) Schmitt. She did factory work for many years. In the late 1970’s she moved to Cold Spring and spent the past 11 years in the John Paul Apartments. Ida enjoyed crafting, crocheting and fishing. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish, Christian Women and Catholic Aid Association.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews.
Ida is the last survivor of the Matthew and Elizabeth Rothstein Schmitt family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Clarence Dank, age 78, who died Tuesday at the Albany Area Hospital, Albany, MN. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Monday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring.
Clarence was born in Maple Lake, MN to Bernard and Clara Dank. He attended country school in rural Stearns County. Clarence had been employed by Franklin Manufacturing in St. Cloud from 1959 to 1961. He began working on the Lawrence Gertken Farm in Cold Spring in 1962 where he continued to work for close to 20 years. Clarence resided at the Dale and Jane Rademacher home in Sauk Centre from 2000 until July 2006 when he moved into the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany.
Clarence had worked at WACOSA in Sauk Centre for several years. He will be remembered for always having a big smile on his face and a ready laugh. He was an easy going, gentle man, who liked animals and people.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of David R. Kloss, 44 of St. Cloud will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in St. Cloud. David passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at his home. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Inurnment will be in Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum in St. Cloud.
Friends may call between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. The Rosary Sodality will pray at 4:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
David was born on April 20, 1963 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to John A. and Dolores (Feldhous) Kloss. He was employed by WACOSA for many years and retired in August of 2006. David was a member of St. John Cantius Parish and the St. Cloud ARC.
David is survived by his parents, John A. and Dolores Kloss of St. Cloud; sister, Joan (Steve) Budde of Foley; brother, Douglas of St. Cloud; grandmother, Loretta (Schwegel) Feldhous of Rockville; nieces, Ashley Schefers and Brittnee Budde; REM Staff and friends; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John K. and Ann (Wallok) Kloss and John Feldhous; uncle, Ken Eisenschenk; cousin, Justin Cruser; and very special friend and teacher, Mary Lindblad.
Casket Bearers will be Marg Moore, Eric Kloss, Kevin Feldhous, Leah Ebensteiner, Roxy Gunner and Kris Wainright-Tadych.

Hugo was born in St. Martin, MN to Robert and Margaret (Mengelkoch) Kuhl. He married Darlene M. Behnen on June 27, 1950 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Munich, MN. Hooky served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. He worked for Cold Spring Granite as a hand polisher; Buermann Homes as a carpenter; laid carpet for Salzl Floors and May Floors. After retirement much of his time was spent on woodcrafts and gardening. He enjoyed playing softball, bowling, horseshoes, guitar and harmonica. He was a member of St. Martin Parish, St. Joseph Society, Catholic Aid Association, Lake Henry American Legion, St. Martin Choir and served as a parish trustee.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene “Blondie”; children, Ken (Dawn) of West Granby, CT, Dennis (Sheila) of Wilsall, MT, Rick (Barb) of Bloomington, Charlie of White Bear Lake, Jeanne (Kent) Engebretson of Starbuck, Kathi (Shane) Meisner of Leonardtown, MD; brothers and sisters, Mark Kuhl, Matthew (Sharon) Kuhl, Sr. Rita Kuhl, OSF; sister-in-law, Bernelda Kuhl; 7 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Thomas Mark; parents; brothers and sister, Carl, Agatha, Fr. Paul, SVD, Benno, Claude, Odo.

Nathan D. (Nate) Laramie of Hayward, CA entered into rest on February 16, 2008 at the age of 30 at his family home.
He was the much loved son of Dan and Jane Laramie and brother/best friend of John Laramie, all of Hayward. Nathan is also survived by and will be greatly missed by his two grandmothers, Delores Dockendorf, Cold Spring, and Cecelia Murphy, St. Cloud, and aunts and uncles Jim and Laine Laramie, St. Cloud, John and Marcie Dockendorf, Mark and Neecy Ficker, Mike and Jan Dockendorf, Gordy and Shelley Giswold, all of Cold Spring, and his 11 cousins all from Central Minnesota. Nathan was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Melvin Dockendorf and Roy Laramie.
Nathan was born in Boulder, CO on February 3, 1978. He graduated from Hillsdale High School in San Mateo, CA in 1996, served his country in the US Army until 2000, then returned to his family in Hayward where he lived until his death. Nathan was a popular local bartender at The Bistro in Hayward and at Tomadachi’s in Hayward. He was an avid MN Vikings fan and enjoyed attending Stanford football games and tailgating with his family. He also enjoyed Karaoke, attending concerts, writing prose and poetry, playing guitar and playing poker. Because he had so many friends and worked in downtown Hayward for most of the last 8 years, Nathan was also sometimes known as the Mayor of B Street. Nathan’s love of life and outgoing, caring and giving nature won the love and respect of many. We will sorely miss his presence among us.

Leonilla died on February 14, 2008 at St. Benedict's Center. The Rev. Alan Wielinski will officiate. Private inurnment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. Leonilla was born on January 16, 1924 in Cold Spring, Stearns County, MN to George and Elizabeth (Hartig) Guggenberger. She married Leo Feneis on June 16, 1945 in Cold Spring, MN. She was a homemaker for most of her life helping in the office of Feneis Plumbing and Heating for a few years. She retired in 1987. Mutz was a proud member of St. Peter's Christian Women, Daughters of Isabella, St. Cloud VFW Post 428 Auxiliary, and Waite Park American Legion Post 428 Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children: Dan (Pat) of Sartell, Ralph (Jean Ann) of Middleburg, VA, Tom (Shirlee) of Maple Grove, Mike (Judy) of Sartell, Steve (Judy) of Sartell, Kevin (Lois) of Sartell, Mary (Steve) Hoover of Sartell; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Sr. Marlene Guggenberger, OSB of St. Cloud, Raymond (Tillie) Guggenberger of Waite Park, Linus Guggenberger of Rockville, David (Lucina) Guggenberger of Sartell, Herbert Guggenberger of Richmond, and George Guggenberger of Richmond.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo on June 24, 2006; one son Leo, Jr; brothers and sister, Medard Guggenberger, Claude Guggenberger, Clara Steil ; one infant sister Josephine.

Daniel “Dan” Salzer, age 76

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Daniel “Dan” Salzer, age 76, who died Saturday after a six month battle with Mesothelioma, an asbestos cancer. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Dan was born in Cold Spring, MN to George and Bertha (Merdan) Salzer. He married Rosemary Zwilling on September 25, 1958. Dan loved and cherished his family and will be most remembered for his friendly smile and outgoing personality. He was a member of St. Boniface Parish and St. Joseph’s Society.
Survivors include his wife, Rosie; children, Deb (DuWayne) Cottew, Steve (Janet) Bob (special friend, Christine), Jerry (Carla), Larry (Shelly) and Barbie (Bob, Jr.) Holthaus; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Pat); sisters, Joan (Norbert) Schramel, Jeanie (Kirk) Smith and Pat (Bill) Kimble; brother-in-law, Erwin Schmitz.

Norbert passed away May 6, 1984. Helen married Leroy Wieber on May 16, 1986. Leroy passed way on August 15, 1999. She worked as an LPN at the Richmond and Paynesville Hospitals until her retirement in 1984. Helen enjoyed playing cards and visiting with her many friends. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, Catholic Aid Association, Catholic Order of Foresters and Golden Smiles.
Survivors include her step-children, Wayne (Carol) Wieber, Gary (Barb) Wieber, Ron (Katia) Wieber, Dean (Margie) Wieber, Mary Lee Wieber (Carmen); two grandchildren, Jill Jacobs and Cory Jacobs; one great-grandchild, Skeye Jacobs; many nephews and nieces.

Kim was a loving wife and mother of three. She could be found where ever they were. Whether it was hockey or figure skating, it didn’t matter, she was there doing what needed to be done-sewing, cheering or driving from place to place! Kim liked to crochet and cross stitch in her spare time. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish and CSAH Association.

Leona was born in Vermillion, MN to Conrad and Elizabeth (Bauer) Ficker. She married Aloys Merten in 1941, St. Nicholas Catholic Church, St. Nicholas, MN. Leona was a loving wife and mother of eleven. Leona worked in various businesses throughout her lifetime retiring from Cold Spring Granite in 1982. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, playing cards, flower beds and the MN Twins! Leona was the cook for the parish priest at Holy Cross Church for many years. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Christian Women and the Catholic Aid Association.

Harold was born January 19, 1918 in Benton County to David and Clara (Herbst) Blattner. He married Mary Corrigan on June 25, 1946 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Duelm. Harold lived in Sauk Rapids all his life and worked at DH Blattner and Sons Construction from 1940 until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, was a life member of Sauk Rapids VFW Post 6992, Past Commander of Sauk Rapids American Legion Post 254, and Past President of Sauk Rapids Lions Club. Harold was an Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and wildlife.

The couple farmed in St. Nicholas from 1941 – 1983. After retiring they moved to Richmond. Bill enjoyed directing his 5 sons while driving tractor! His hobbies include; woodworking, gardening, ice fishing and playing cards. He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, Catholic Order of Foresters, Men’s Society and the Golden Smiles.
Survivors include Mildred, his wife of 66 years; children, Kathleen (Jim) Utecht of Cape Coral, FL, Eugene (Ann) of St. Cloud, Dennis (Sondra) of Palo Alto, CA, Harv (Teri) of St. Cloud, Larry (LaDonna) of Coon Rapids, Ron (Larry Tuura) of Minneapolis; 12 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 9 step great-grandchildren; brother, Joe (Eileen) Dingmann; sisters, Sr. Virginia Dingmann, O.S.F. and Irene (Ray) Schneider; sisters-in-law, Marie, Theresa, Viola and Alma.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2008 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Kimball. Fr. Frank Tomasiewicz will officiate. The burial will be at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Watkins. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-10 a.m. Friday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball. Parish prayers will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Harold was born April 11, 1922 in St. Martin, MN to Leo and Emily (Burg) Schmitz. Harold served in the army during WWII from 1945 through 1947. He married Dorothy B. Johannes on October 3, 1944 in St. Nicholas. Following his service he and Dorothy farmed in Luxemburg Township for 10 years. They moved to Watkins, MN in 1957 after they purchased the Playland Ballroom in Kimball, MN and enjoyed the business and their participation even after their son Dennis and wife Janyce bought the ballroom in 1982. Harold always enjoyed visiting with all the friendly customers and played Tic-Tac-Toe whenever he had a chance. You could always find Harold because he whistled while he worked. He especially enjoyed family visits and looked forward to seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Wat-Kim-Valley VFW Post 5460 and Kimball American Legion Post 261.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Daryl of Lincoln, CA, Patricia (Jeffrey) Thull of Plymouth, Dennis (Janyce) of Kimball, Ronald (Robin) of Troup, TX and Robert of Loomis, CA; sisters, Bernice Gulley and Viola Keul of Cold Spring and Eileen (Dominic) Warzecha of Sartell; brother, Erwin of St. Cloud; brother-in-law Leo Vossen of Cold Spring; sister-in-law, Marie of Albany; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Harold is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Brian Donald; an infant baby girl; brothers, Gilbert and Werner; sister, Lucile Vossen; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann.
The family is deeply grateful for the care and support Harold received from CentraCare Hospice and all their wonderful staff.

A Memorial Service will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring, MN for Donald N. Peters, age 59, who died unexpectedly at his home from natural causes. Deacon Joe Kresky will officiate. Inurnment will be in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery at a later date.

Don was born in St. Cloud, MN to Clem and Dorothy (Leither) Peters. He received a Purple Heart medal while serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Don worked in the granite industry for most of his life. He loved to hunt, fish, and most of all - gardening was his pride and joy! He enjoyed raising and training hunting dogs. He kept area residents well stocked with fish, garden produce and flowers. He was a member of the Vietnam Last Man’s Club.
Survivors include his mother, Dorothy of Cold Spring; sisters, Kathy (Jeff) Cziok of Sartell, Joan (Robert) Streater of North Branch and brother, Pat of Cold Spring; nephews, Adam and Alex Streater; his dog, Max; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clem (7-28-83) and his grandparents.

Christine was born in St. Martin, MN to Peter and Margaret (Gossler) Birk. She married Norbert Mumm who died in 1949. She then married Marcellus J. Lahr on April 10, 1950 in St. Boniface Church, Cold Spring. Christine was a loving wife and mother of six children. She was a homemaker, did daycare for her grandchildren and worked at Fingerhut for eight years. Christine enjoyed her grandchildren, playing cards and reading. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish and Christian Women.
Survivors include her children, Darlene (Buddy) Ramler of Crystal, Roger (Sharon) Mumm of Hutchinson, Thomas (Paula) Mumm of Prior Lake, Mary (Charles) Theisen of St. Cloud and Deb (Fran) Ramler of Cold Spring; 18 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren; brother, William Birk.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Norbert (1949) and Marcellus (2006); parents; daughter, Patricia Kaiser; 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
Kristine Ann Cunningham Rose, age 40

Kristine Ann Cunningham Rose was born in Wheaton, MN, November 8, 1967, to John Patrick Cunningham and Cheryle Ann Giroux Cunningham. She was baptized into the Catholic faith on November 26th 1967 at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton.
On October 26, 1985 she was confirmed in the Catholic faith by Bishop Raymond Lucker at St John’s Church in Ortonville.
Kristine graduated, in 1986, from Ortonville High School. She received a BA in Social Work from the College of St. Benedict in 1990 and began her career working in long-term care at Galtier Health Center in St. Paul and then at St. Benedict’s Center in St. Cloud, MN. For the past 9 years, she has worked as a Physician Recruiter for Centra Care Health Systems in St. Cloud.
On St. Patrick’s’ Day 2001 she was joined in marriage to Robert Jon Rose, of Cold Spring, MN. Throughout their 11 years together, Kristine, and step-daughter, Jenna Rose, have always had a very special relationship.
Kristine is survived by husband, Robert Jon Rose, and step daughter, Jenna Rose, Cold Spring, MN; parents, John and Sheri (Giroux) Cunningham, Ortonville, MN; brother, Micheal John Cunningham (Abby), St. Cloud, MN; sister, Colleen Cunningham Orne (Jason), Avon, MN; father-in-law, Gilbert Rose, New Ulm, MN; brother-in-laws, Steve and Scott Rose, New Ulm, MN; nieces, Lily and Emily Orne, Andria and Melissa Rose and Elizabeth Brown; nephews, John Thomas Orne and Jeremy Rose.
Along with her love for movies, shopping, a great cup of coffee, and spending time with friends; Kristine had a passion for wearing green clothes and donning Celtic jewelry and mementos to honor her Irish roots. Kris’ smile, quick wit and infectious laugh could brighten anyone’s day.
Kristine loved Minnesota summers at her home on the Sauk River, the family’s cabins on Lake Traverse and all activities sun-related. Along with her three dogs and three cats, Kristine loved music and was very moved by song lyrics. She often shared gifts of music with friends and family; hoping to inspire them as she had been inspired by such pieces.
Kristine was a member of St. Boniface Parish in Cold Spring and played in the bell choir for several years. For many years, she also served as co-chair of the YES (You Excel at Satisfaction) team at the St. Cloud Hospital – celebrating the accomplishments and commitments of the professionals she thought so highly of at the hospital. Additionally, she served as Sponsorship Chair for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Central Minnesota. For nine years, Kristine organized a team and walked in the Relay for Life raising thousands of dollars to find a cure for cancer.
In November 2007, Kristine received the Courage Award from the American Cancer Society, Central MN Chapter, for her efforts in raising funds to support the cancer society’s mission; as well as to honor her courageous journey in her second fight against cancer.
In her final weeks, Kristine planned her funeral, made burial and mass arrangements and made certain others would be at peace after her passing. Kristine gave her life to make certain others felt valued, heard and cared for. Her no-nonsense, honest, say-what-you-mean approach to life was a lesson for us all. She lived life to its fullest.

Karen L. Schramel was born in Eden Valley, MN to Eldred and Lenora (Boeckman) Schramel. Karen enjoyed reading, being with family and friends, but especially spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Alvina H. "Vinie" Klaphake, age 89 of Melrose, died Monday, January 14 in Pine Haven at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 18 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vincent Lieser officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Alvina Klaphake was born August 20, 1918 in Spring Hill Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Hubert and Anna (Sand) Welle. On April 29, 1941 she married Frank Klaphake in Melrose. The couple farmed one mile north of Melrose. While Vinie was a young lady, she worked at the Melrose Hotel and later at the Hardware Hank in Melrose. Vinie enjoyed music and playing cards. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Melrose, Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary, and the Melrose Credit Union.
Survivors include her sons, Roger Klaphake (Carol) of Cold Spring, Ronald Klaphake (Penny) of Peoria, AZ, and Gary Klaphake (Carolyn) of Lafayette, CO; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren..
Vinie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank Klaphake on February 6, 2007; brothers Mike Welle, Henry Welle, Al Welle, Pete Welle, Bill Welle, and Hub Welle; sisters, Annie Thull, Pauline Meyer, and Rose Moening.

Jackie was born August 22, 1970 in St. Cloud to Thomas and Julie (LaFond) Gretsch. She graduated from Rocori High School in 1989. Jackie married Peter Gustafson on September 3, 1994 in St. Cloud. She worked in the Deli at Coborn's in Sauk Rapids.
Jackie enjoyed arts and crafts and outdoor activities. She was an angel to all animals, taking them under her wing.
Jackie is survived by her husband, Peter of Avon; mother, Julie Gretsch of Cold Spring; sister, Denna (Eric) Hamilton of Columbus, Ohio; grandparents, Muriel and Robert Eisler of Cold Spring; uncle, Jim LaFond of Cold Spring; aunts, Jane (Doug) Johnson of St. Paul and Joni Smoley of Sartell; and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas in 1997; grandfather, Gayle LaFond in 1990; and grandmother Viola Gretsch in 1974.

Robert Earl Barrett, Jr. was born in North St. Paul, MN to Robert and Mary Dorothy (Fitzgerald) Barrett. He graduated from North St. Paul High School in 1940, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. and served his country during World War II. After his discharge he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in St. Paul. He married Mary Ann (Mertens) and continued his career with the Post Office, later transferring to rural mail routes serving Morgan and then Redwood Falls. He retired in July, 1979 and moved to the Cold Spring area in 1980. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, reading, casino trips and watching sports.
Survivors include his children, Mike (Donna) Barrett of St. James, Sharon (John) Hagen of Glen Ellyn, IL, Teri (Harv) Dingmann of St. Cloud; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, one sister and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family also includes two foreign exchange daughters (one deceased), six foreign exchange grandchildren and one foreign exchange great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and three brothers.

Jerome R. Dingmann was born in Farming, MN to Bernard and Theresa (Rolfes) Dingmann. He married Bernie Olmscheid on June 10, 1952 in St. Martin, MN. They were married for 55 years. During his lifetime, Jerome farmed near Farming until retirement in 1998. Jerome was a loving husband and father of seven. He loved spending time with family, friends and his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, woodworking, watching Twins baseball and gardening with a special love of flowers (red geraniums). He was a member of Catholic Aid and the Farming Sportman’s Club.

Donald H. Conrad, age 81, St. Cloud, MN, died Monday, January 7, 2008 at his home.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be Friday, January 11, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Holmes City, MN.
Donald Conrad was born March 9, 1926 in Cold Spring, MN to Walter and Martha (Kloeppner) Conrad. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On January 7, 1956 Donald married Marilyn Anderson in Ashby, MN. Donald was employed for 40 years by Cold Spring Granite in sales, estimating and as a draftsman. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Don will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He especially cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed travel and family gatherings. He was a gifted craftsman, designer and an avid reader. He enjoyed visiting with friends and was known for his sense of humor, wit, and wisdom. Don had many interests and especially enjoyed aeronautics, fishing, music and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Conrad of St. Cloud, MN; sons, Steve (Gail) Conrad of St. Cloud, MN; Mark (Kim) Conrad of Sartell, MN; David (Margaret) Conrad of St. Cloud, MN; Andre (Jill) Conrad of Crystal, MN; brothers and sister, Walter Wally Conrad of Cold Spring, MN; Marian Zierden of Buffalo, MN; Joseph Joe Conrad of Portland, OR; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ramona Lund and Joan Buermann, and one brother, Thomas Conrad.
