I\u2019m not sure when I felt a change in our society. Maybe it was after the Columbine shooting; maybe it was after 9-1-1; maybe it was after the ROCORI school shooting; or it could have been a combination. What I do know is that I started looking at our world from a different angle because of all the chaos those events, and many more, created in our lives. After countless mass shootings in schools, churches, music venues, workplaces, movie theaters, and others, I can\u2019t help but look at my surroundings more carefully. About a week ago we attended a movie and after we sat down in our seats I found myself looking for an escape route, or a good place to hide should some crazy person pick that theater and that time to raise some hell. Many of you might think that is crazy, but is it really? When you consider the ROCORI school district residents have had to endure the loss of two students to a shooting, and the murder of one of our police officers, I don\u2019t think a certain amount of paranoia is too far-fetched. I bring this up because you may have seen some recent news reports that suggest the United States is under heightened threats of terrorism right here on our home soil. The FBI says these new threats could bring organized shootings, much like the one in a Russian concert hall where 137 people were shot to death, to venues on American soil. Part of the fear is the people who would do the evil deeds are already in America waiting for their orders. If you think it can\u2019t be done, try to remember the organization it took to fly those airplanes into buildings, killing thousands, on September 11, 2001. What nobody knows is where any new attacks might happen. Or maybe someone does know, but hasn\u2019t told us yet? Something else to keep in mind when it comes to terrorists is how patient they can be when an organized attack is in the planning. From what I\u2019ve read it took over five years to organize the attack, which included several men learning to fly the airplanes \u2013 they learned it here, in America. I won\u2019t stop enjoying the things I enjoy because something \u201cmight\u201d happen, but it doesn\u2019t mean I won\u2019t exercise a certain amount of due diligence when I do the things I do.<\/p>\n
