Isn\u2019t life interesting? You seem to spend most of it waiting for something. From an early age, it\u2019s a waiting game. When you\u2019re young, you wait to be able to start going to school. You get a little older, and you wait to be able to finish school. Between starting and finishing school, you wait to get your driver\u2019s license. Once you\u2019re driving, you wait to find a job. Then you wait (and hope) for a job that pays more money.<\/p>\n
You wait to get married, then you wait to start a family. Next, you wait for your children to grow up and start their own family, which means you wait for grandchildren and all they bring into your life.<\/p>\n
You will very likely find yourself waiting to pay off your car loan or home mortgage.<\/p>\n
After a while, you wait for retirement. Once you retire, you find things to do, but you might find yourself waiting for the day you can no longer do what you used to do. I\u2019ve already lost the ability to do everything I used to. Some physical activities are beyond my capabilities. That reality has me thinking that I need to enjoy everything I can while I can. I know there will come a day when I can no longer golf. That will be a sad day; that silly game is something I\u2019ve enjoyed since I was about 12 years old.<\/p>\n
About two years ago, the day came when I felt compelled to sell my motorcycle. Neither of us felt safe riding here any longer. I admit I really miss that part of my life. Motorcycling was a therapy for me. I met people I would have never met. I went places I\u2019d very likely never gone. I saw things I probably would have never seen.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve come to realize that life is a waiting game, and at some point you might just be waiting to die. Until that day comes, I plan to make the best I can out of every day I have left. I figure the more active I can remain, the better chance I have of extending my time here on Earth. It\u2019s ironic, though: the older you get, the less you are capable of doing.<\/p>\n
Maybe finding smaller goals \u2013 things to wait for \u2013 like tee times, will help.<\/p>\n
