Are you running to the grocery store to stock up?<\/p>\n
While walking up and down the aisles at our local store just a few days ago, I noticed some things were missing or very scarce on the shelves.<\/p>\n
News reports, or news feeds, are telling us there is a fear that some items will become harder and harder to find because the tariffs may create a shortage of the things that are imported. I don\u2019t know if I\u2019ll put much weight on the scare tactics, and just like when COVID hit all of us, it\u2019s people who will create the shortage by hoarding the items they fear may be hard to find.<\/p>\n
One item being talked about on a neighborhood forum is avocados. What I gathered from the \u201cconversations\u201d on that forum was that there are some people who think the lack of avocados is important enough to spend time worrying about it.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t care about avocados, I don\u2019t like avocados, so I don\u2019t eat avocados, I don\u2019t use avocados in any recipes, and I know I will be fine if they disappear from grocery stores. I\u2019m sure those who enjoy that food item won\u2019t shrivel up if they can\u2019t get their avocados for a while.<\/p>\n
I guess those people concerned about it ought to sit back and think about how much their lives will change if avocados become scarce. Or maybe they ought to be thankful if that\u2019s the biggest concern they have.<\/p>\n
The fear-mongers are looking for reasons to spread doubt and give people things to worry about, while it might be best to sit back and wait for things to work out before we all run to the store and clear the shelves.<\/p>\n
I wouldn\u2019t wish anyone to go through that COVID experience from just a few years ago again, and I seriously doubt tariffs would put us in any kind of similar situation.<\/p>\n
Again, bare shelves in stores are more likely to be created by people trying to calm their fears than shortages created by tariffs.<\/p>\n
