Jason Spoden. The cost for the new K-9 was paid by donations to the department. Chief Blum then extended his gratitude to Dr. Jeff Nelson of Granite City Pet Hospital for donating his services. Likewise, the department extended a special note of appreciation to all donors for the canine and to the program.

Shortly thereafter, Chief Blum reported that local public and private schools played a major role in the naming of the new Patrol Canine. Chief Blum said that each class from each school submitted a name for the canine. From that long list, the department pared down the names to three finalists which were then presented back to the schools for a vote. The winning name of the new canine was announced during a school assembly. And the name chosen by the students for the new K-9 Patrol for the department was “CASH”!

Fast forward to Cold Spring City Council meeting January 22, 2025.
