I\u2019m writing this week\u2019s column just four days after the election, three days after the decision was announced.<\/p>\n
I know the majority of Minnesota voters cast their ballots for the Democratic party\u2014this is not a surprise since history indicates that\u2019s the direction Minnesota typically supports. I\u2019m sure the support was influenced by the fact that Minnesota\u2019s Governor was on the ticket as a candidate for Vice-President.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m sure most of the readers of this column wouldn\u2019t be surprised that I supported the conservative side of this past election \u2013 when I was elected and re-elected to the ROCORI School Board, I am sure my conservative beliefs aided me in those victories.<\/p>\n
As long as I can remember, I\u2019ve believed that the government ought to be run like a business \u2013 not spending more than it makes and being held accountable for overspending if it happens.<\/p>\n
Since Minnesota supported the Democratic ticket, there are many disappointed voters, but it\u2019s hard to deny that the majority of United States voters believe it\u2019s time for a change. The dismal state of the economy is probably the strongest driving factor for the desire for that change.<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t believe I\u2019m alone when I tell you my retirement plans didn\u2019t include the price increases we\u2019ve all had to deal with for the past three years. I took a part-time job to allow me to enjoy my retirement time rather than staying home and doing little or nothing. I figured I hadn\u2019t worked all my life since age 12 to just sit at home doing nothing, but without the added income of a part-time job, that\u2019s exactly what the increase in prices for nearly everything would force me to do.<\/p>\n
I know there are many retired people who no longer have the ability to work and have to figure out what they can do without so they can stretch their budget as far as they can.<\/p>\n
It seems to me that every Presidential election year, we are promised we will see a lowering of our deficit \u2013 will this Presidential cycle be the time that it happens \u2013 I doubt it, but it would be nice to see our debt decline instead of grow.<\/p>\n
