From what I could find about when Iran and Israel started fighting each other, it’s been ongoing since 1979. Most recently, Israel launched an attack on Iran in June of last year. Iran retaliated with missiles launched into Israel. The United States got involved in late June, taking out Iranian nuclear sites. In February of this year, Israel and the United States targeted Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
If you watch the news on television, you already know the United States took out Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, and several of his military leaders. According to news reports, there were mixed reactions to that strike – some were celebrating the hope for new leadership while others mourned the loss of their leader and vowed death to Americans.
What happens in Iran next remains to be seen, but some people have new hope for something different for the Iranian people with different leadership, and maybe some form of democracy.
The killing of Ayatollah closely followed the death of a Mexican drug cartel leader in Mexico, done by the Mexican military, but I’m sure our President encouraged the action.
The loss of the Mexican Cartel leader prompted retaliation by the Mexican Cartel, and people vacationing in Mexico were forced to go on lock-down in their hotels so they could wait for things to settle down and the airports to reopen.
Not too long ago, some friends were talking about trips they have planned for several countries overseas – maybe I’m chicken, but if I plan any vacations, I figure there are plenty of places right here in the good old USA for me to visit, where I should be safer than in foreign countries where I’d feel like I need to constantly be looking over my shoulder. I know there are places where Americans are safe, but I’m content right here in my home country.
Have A Good Week!
