Wayne Michael Barthel, age 73, of St. Michael, MN, passed away on December 16, 2025.
Wayne was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was defined by his love for family. He found joy in the outdoors, fishing the Great Lakes and local waters, hunting, and cooking for family. Wayne cherished time with his children and grandchildren, attending their sporting events, concerts, and special moments. His dedication to family was unwavering and will be remembered by all who knew him. The advice he shared with his children has had an incredible impact and will continue to guide them for years to come.
Wayne married Nancy (Hommerding) on July 20, 1974, at St. John’s Catholic Church. Together, they raised their four children in St. Michael.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Barthel; children Candice (Scott Gorynski) Gaston, Aaron (Amy) Barthel, Erich (Lea Bruner) Barthel, and Kristin (Elliott) Major; grandchildren Kylie, Amayah, Audrey, Alquin, Andrew, Gabriel, Luci, and Everett; siblings Larry (Lin) Barthel, Sharon (Jim) Povlich, Ronald (Ann) Barthel, and Karen (John) Nutt; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Bertilla (Lutgen) Barthel, and his brother David Busch.
Wayne graduated from St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN, and carried a lifelong passion for business and accounting. He enjoyed all aspects of business and was an amazing mentor, leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with.
A celebration of Wayne’s life will take place in the spring, with details to be shared with family and friends at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his family.
