I will openly admit that I didn’t know who Charlie Kirk was until I saw the news report that he had been shot to death on a college campus while doing his work debating students on various topics.

Once his murder was in the news, I became interested in who he was and what he stood for. I searched YouTube first and found many videos that were recorded at different colleges, both in the United States and overseas.

He allowed anyone who was in the crowd to come to a mic and voice their opinion on any topic and ask questions. Mr. Kirk was a very, very good speaker. He was very obviously an intelligent man who could cite statistics like he was reading them from a book. He was also a Christian. He was conservative, and he believed very strongly in human rights, especially when it came to protecting the unborn. In the many, many hours of video clips I watched, Mr. Kirk was never stumped, and he graciously explained his position and beliefs to anyone who stood up to the microphone to share their thoughts and ask questions.

Another source for Charlie Kirk video clips is “Twitter” (now known as “X”). The videos aren’t nearly as long as those found on YouTube, but interesting, nonetheless.

Other things I found interesting on “X” were recordings of Congress members interviewing different people for different cases of “inappropriate activities” among our lawmakers and committees – things you will be unlikely to see on the daily news, but very interesting, if not very disturbing. The few I’ve watched so far were related to committee members of various government-appointed groups and the groups’ misappropriation of funds, or misuse of power and influence. It’s doubtful much of it will ever make the news, and none of us will ever hear the results of the investigations, and that makes the information very disturbing to me. It’s disturbing because it makes me wonder how much “cheating” is going on in our government, and how much time is diverted from important issues while these investigations are ongoing.

At the same time, our government is currently shut down. The shutdown is withholding paychecks from many non-essential federal employees, including air traffic controllers, who are reportedly calling in sick. This is forcing delayed flights and the closing of a few airports in our nation. Federally run parks and museums are closed. A shutdown of our government has far-reaching economic effects, and, sadly, both sides are pointing fingers at each other instead of working toward a solution.

How about this? Our lawmakers’ paychecks should be withheld until they reach an agreement – better yet, our lawmakers ought to be forced to accept the same healthcare coverage the people who pay them have to live with. How much do you want to bet things would change for the better for all of us, really quickly?

Have A Good Week!
