It’s hard to believe that school is starting “back home” again. Students here in Florida began two weeks ago. A few years ago, when I still lived in Minnesota, this was my favorite time of year, when everyone anticipated the changing of colors in the trees. The cooler nights and days. I admit that the older I got, the less I liked what followed – winter.
There are very few color changes in the trees in central Florida. A few trees will lose their leaves, but for the most part, the leaves remain green and stay on the trees.
Some varieties of grass will go dormant and turn brown, but other varieties stay green through the winter months.
I didn’t keep many “winter” (warm) clothes when we moved here – I guess I figured there would be little chance I’d return to Minnesota in the winter. After spending four-and-a-half years down south, where the average temperature is probably about 80 degrees, it would be a shock to my system to experience those below-zero temperatures again. I admit, I still keep an eye on Minnesota’s weather, and it’s difficult to imagine not being able to play golf from October through April. Over the past four winters there have only been a couple days each winter when I couldn’t wear short pants, so I can’t imagine having to dress up to face the cold of those Minnesota winters.

I’m not sure I remember a summer when so many wildfires were on the news all summer long. I know Minnesota experienced bad air quality from smoke that moved south out of Canada. Firefighters are fighting those wildfires all over our nation, and many people have lost their homes and property, while men and women risk their lives trying to put those fires out.

There aren’t many days that there isn’t news about the unrest in Ukraine and Israel. It’s sad, and hard to imagine, bombs being directed at hospitals, churches, and schools, with many civilians being killed. I know one thing, I wouldn’t want to be a journalist in any area involved in a war; many have lost their lives, as well as civilians.
There’s enough crazy stuff going on in the United States, but I’m very thankful I don’t feel a need to worry about where bombs will be dropped.
Have A Good Week!
