Pictured are the three dozen or more, men, women and kids participating in the Annual BLESSING of the local Community Garden located on Chestnut St. North, Rockville, on May 12, 2025. Deacon Dan Dullinger, did the honors (English) chosing a Scripture Reading from Genesis telling of God’s great generosity & kindness in giving us the beauty of the earth where we can grow food to nourish our families. Deacon Dan was assisted by guitarists, William and Juan, who played and led all in psalms & hymns of Thanksgiving (Spanish), holy water was generously sprinkled on the 24 plots, first by the Deacon, then by many of the “gardeners” as they walked around the plots! A special request for rain was made by all before closing with a song and a social with treats for all and best wishes for a good growing season!
Special thanks to Mary of the Immaculate Conception Parish for the use of the “land”, to the Legion of Mary & Fr. Tony Kroll for spearheading the continuing project, and especially to Daryl & Rosie Steil, (care of pump/picnic table), George Bechtold (stringing off plots), Floyd Buemer (plowing/grading), Bruce Conrad (filling tanks), Tom Maselter (putting in name plaques) and West Central Sanitation (pick-up service), and various others; especially for the friendships formed between the participants who speak two different languages!
