I’m not sure how long it would take to find a Presidential Pardon with enough merit to validate it. This power has been available to the President since the 1800s. You can find information about past pardons on Wikipedia. I searched to find information that would explain why the power to pardon was given to our Commander in Chief, to no avail. I think the power should be rescinded.
The pardon of President Biden’s son, Hunter, wasn’t much of a surprise to me. President Biden has been asked the question about pardoning his son many times, and each time, he claimed he would not be issuing the pardon. Then he did. The pardon granted by President Biden is a full and unconditional pardon that covers 11 years and is not limited to the offenses charged and prosecuted. What that makes me think is the President (and his son) knew there were more crimes committed during that period, so the President threw a big, wide-sweeping blanket over his son. I think it’s wrong, but then I question any pardon.
I think part of the shame of a pardon is that the person or persons being pardoned have been convicted – some of them already serving sentences. That means lawyers and judges and many times juries have spent a lot of time, effort, and money proving guilt – the pardon wastes all that effort and grants a guilty person his freedom, like the crime never happened.
Naturally, President Biden is defending his pardon by claiming his son was a political target because of whose son he is.
From my reading, I’ve gleaned there seems to be controversy to almost any Presidential pardon, which begs the question, “Why do we still allow Presidential pardons?”

So far, I have not been “Floridaized,” – meaning I’m still warm when the temperatures dip below 50. You can tell the people who have lived here a long time – they have winter coats on when the mercury dips below that 50-degree mark. I get a lot of stares when I walk into the grocery store, still wearing short pants and short-sleeved shirts. After three and a half years, I’ve only worn long pants for five days. I’m sure as I get older and live here longer, I’ll start to lose my tolerance to cooler weather, but for now, I silently chuckle when I see those people bundled up in winter jackets.
Have A Good Week!
