The Cold Spring Home Pride Lions performed Vision Screening at Cold Spring Elementary, St. Boniface, Sts. Peter and Paul and Richmond Elementary in September. We screened 1000 children in grades Kindergarten – 5th grade. There were 62 students that further screening by an eye care professional was recommended. The WelchAllyn Vision Screening Device we use produces images of a child’s eyes to determine the presence of eye disorders including: far-and-near-sightedness, lazy-eye, astigmatism, anisometropia (unequal refractive power), strabismus, (misaligned eyes), and media opacities (e.g., cataracts). No physical contact is made with a child and no eye drops are used during the vision screening. According to educational experts, 80% of learning is visual. So if children can’t see well, it is much more difficult for them to learn efficiently. If you have any questions about the vision screening we do you can contact the Rocori District nurse Jessica Miller or one of the Home Pride Lions. WE SERVE!
