On August 28th, The Cold Spring Area Chamber Ambassadors had the opportunity to welcome Stearns History Museum as a member of the Cold Spring Area Chamber of Commerce. We met with staff members, Amy Degerstrom and Ann Marie Johnson.
Ms. Degerstrom shared a little history on when and how the Stearns History Museum came about. In 1936, The Stearns County Historical Society started and was housed in the Courthouse. In 1974, a campaign started to build a museum. In 1984, that dream became a reality as they opened the doors to the Stearns History Museum. This year, they are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Stearns History Museum with an 80’s theme exhibit and events.
The Chamber Ambassadors were given a tour of the Museum. If you haven’t been there recently it’s worth checking out. Stearns County residents can tour the Museum for FREE. They have over 30,000 objects that cover all of Stearns County and over a million photographs. They have an extensive history in a variety of formats and even a newspaper dated back to 1875!
Ms. Degerstrom suggests getting a membership as that will get you discounts for additional tours and events. They offer individual, family, and business memberships. They are always looking for volunteers to assist with projects, greeting, giving tours, or working events.
If you would like to learn more about the Stearns History Museum you can visit their website at www.stearnshistorymuseum.org or visit them at 235 33rd Ave. S., St. Cloud. Thank you Stearns History Museum for your support of the Cold Spring Area community!
