Make sure you’ve marked your calendar for the first Museum Mystery Night for Tuesday, September 24th at 6 p.m. at the Cold Spring Area Historical Society Museum. It’s set to be a fun evening filled with opportunities to socialize, mix, mingle and share a common interest in old photographs, artifacts and antiques.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn easy techniques to identify key components of a photograph which can assist in identifying the store behind it. The people, time and place within the picture can evoke pleasant memories of days of the past. Before you know it we can identify that old picture found in the back of Grandma’s dresser drawer or the Senior Year party, where it was at and who attended.
This photo from the Cold Spring Area Historical Society Museum photo collection is a good example of using context clues to identify the photo. The date has been already stamped on it which is one piece of the puzzle. Note the paved roads, the stop sign, the buildings in the back ground, the parked car, the weather, written words on the building and the Mobile store sign. These are all clues to where this picture was taken from.
And that folks is what the Museum Mystery Night will be about; Identifying photos and items to help preserve memories and our family history.
