On a beautiful sunlit Thursday evening, June 6th, the Cold Spring Area Maennerchor filled the Grasshopper Chapel courtyard with a unique blend of faith and musical beauty. This charming little church, nestled amidst picturesque landscapes and known for its story of prayers and locusts, has been a special setting for the Maennerchor to lead one of the Thursday evening Masses during May and June for over two decades.
This year, the choir’s performance was truly moving. They led the congregation in traditional Mass hymns, but also treated everyone to a selection of special songs. “I Am With You” set the peaceful tone as the prelude, while “He Never Failed Me Yet” brought a sense of profound comfort during communion. The service culminated with the uplifting “Lift Me Up,” leaving attendees with a sense of hope and joy.
What makes these Grasshopper Chapel Masses so special is their setting. The service takes place outside on the beautiful grounds surrounding the chapel, offering a serene backdrop for an evening of prayer and music. It’s a perfect way to connect with nature and experience the power of music to uplift the spirit.
The Maennerchor, with their rich 87-year history, has always been deeply woven into the fabric of the Cold Spring community. Their participation in these Masses is just one example of their commitment to enriching lives through music and fostering a sense of unity.
As the final notes of “Lift Me Up” faded, a sense of peace lingered in the air, a reminder of the power of music to touch hearts and create lasting memories.
So, if you’re looking for a unique way to experience faith and music, be sure to join the community at the Grasshopper Chapel for one of the Thursday evening Masses during June.
And if you’re looking for an opportunity to support the Maennerchor, mark your calendars for their upcoming events: The 3rd Annual Charity Golf Fundraiser on July 20th at the River Oaks Golf Club, and their 2nd Annual Oktoberfest Bavarian Style celebration on September 14th at the River Lakes Civic Arena.
