In just a few weeks, Minnesota voters have an opportunity to begin a change in the state’s politics. Primary elections will be used to select which candidates will be on the ballot for the fall election.
Likely one of the most important positions will be for Governor. Your current Governor has decided not to run for re-election. In my opinion, that is good news for Minnesota. It’s also an important reason for participating in the upcoming primary election.
It’s probably no surprise that rural areas lean to the right, while urban areas lean to the left – this is true in most states, and in most elections, including presidential elections. It’s not often I, personally, would consider a primary election important, but this one I would if I still lived there, and I’d make plans to vote in the primary. This election cycle’s primary will set up who is on the ballot in November.
If you read this column, it should be no surprise that I would vote to put Lisa Demuth on the November ballot. She is currently the Speaker of the House, having gained that position in 2025.
With today’s computers and the internet, you can do your own research. There is a lot of information you can browse about Minnesota’s politics that could be helpful in your decision.

Here in my new home area (Florida) we are experiencing why many people decide to leave here and head back north for the summer. Temperatures are hanging around the mid 90s, with humidity also in the mid 90s – it’s stifling, and I’d tell you that you can get used to it, but you really don’t – you learn to tolerate it, or stay inside where the air conditioning keeps it cool and comfortable; a lot like your warm houses in the middle of winter.
