Just the other day, I was thinking about how fast this year is going already – here it is, the middle of June. That thought reminded me that another class of ROCORI High School seniors graduated recently.
I’m not sure if this is normal, but I graduated from ROCORI 52 years ago. I remember the day and how the classmates lined up in the hallway in the order they’d be seated on the gym floor. I recall it was a warm day – as early June days can be. I remember the classmates I sat next to. Beyond that, I don’t have a clear recollection about who gave speeches, nor what they spoke about.
I remember how I felt about graduating. I would imagine most high school seniors feel the same as I did – excited that graduation finally arrived, yet nervous about what the future would look like.
Some graduates had firm plans about which college they would attend. Some already had jobs lined up. Some knew they’d work AND go to college. Yet others didn’t have a clear direction for where their post-high-school days would take them.
For some, graduating from high school came quicker than they had imagined, and they needed more time to figure out where their lives would take them.
I remember there were several classmates in the Class of ‘74 who couldn’t wait to leave the area. Others had no plans to leave and remained rooted in the ROCORI area.
I’m still proud to have graduated from ROCORI High School and hope the majority of the graduates who followed me still feel the same way as well.
