Another new year is just days away. I’ve said this many times, how does time go by so quickly?
I recall when I was in my twenties and planning to build a house, I estimated the total cost and whether to sign a 15, 20, or 30-year mortgage. I couldn’t afford the payment on the 15-year loan, so I decided I’d go with the 20-year. I remember thinking about how old I’d be when the mortgage was paid, nearly 50; it seemed so far away.
Then my 50s came. I still had a mortgage, but that was because I built a couple of homes since the first, each one a little bit bigger, and because prices rarely go down. There were a number of vehicles added to the mix, so it took me a long time to become debt free.
Finally, it was time to retire. Once the decision was made, I found myself both excited and concerned. Excited because I looked forward to not having to work every day. Concerned because I wasn’t quite sure how not working every day would feel. How would I fill my time? I expected that time would slow down once I didn’t dedicate day-after-day to my work life. I was wrong. Days after retirement seem to go by even quicker than they did before, and right around the corner is yet another new year – 2026.
Maybe 2026 will see an end to all the political bickering, rising prices, and people who don’t have homes, but nobody will know until the days of 2026 pass by.
May 2026 bring you peace, happiness, and good health.
Have A Good Week!
