Just over a week ago, the United States made it clear to Iran that Iran needs to end its nuclear weapons program when U.S. bombers dropped bunker-busting bombs on nuclear production plants in Iran.
The conflict between Iran and Israel has been going on since the 1970s, but developed into what could be called all-out war just this month, with Israel sending missiles to destroy military targets in Iran, and Iran sending missiles to Israel that targeted civilian sites.
The United States has been on Israel’s side for a long time and, over the years, has demanded that Iran stop its nuclear program. I’m assuming there was evidence that Iran wasn’t taking the U.S. demand seriously, so B-2 bombers were sent with 30,000-pound bombs that were dropped on specific sites in Iran.
As this column was being written, a “Special Report” on television announced that Iran launched a retaliatory strike on a U.S. Airbase in Qatar. The base is home to over 10,000 U.S. troops, but is said to be “very well defended.” News reports indicated the attack missiles were shot down.
This air strike by the United States wasn’t done on a whim. Apparently, troops in some smaller U.S. bases in the Middle East were ordered to leave the bases days ago.
How the United States is viewed in this situation, of course, depends on which side is doing the talking. Iran isn’t happy and vows revenge. Israel is happy and says this strike could be the beginning of the end of the war there. One side says President Trump should be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize – the other thinks he should be brought up on war crimes.
No matter what, this is a time when United States citizens will be relying on our military for protection from foreign attacks, both at home and especially abroad. Godspeed to our military.
Have A Good Week!
