If you watch national news, you might get the impression that something is wrong with our world.

Protests have been going on at multiple locations (including here in The Villages). One protest I have difficulty understanding was in London, where protesters are “shooting” people with water guns. The protesters are locals, and those being shot are tourists – that’s right, Londoners are protesting tourism. I probably have difficulty understanding because I don’t live there, so I’m not familiar with the issues the locals are concerned with.

To me, it feels like Israel and Iran have been going at each other for many years, but the conflict has gained attention after Israel ramped up missile strikes last week.

Most everyone has heard or seen news reports about the Russia and Ukraine conflict that seems to have been going on forever, with no real hope for resolution.

Then, out of the blue, some crazy person murders a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband, then shoots another lawmaker and his wife (they were hit with a total of 17 bullets, but survived). The shooter was caught early last week. He had a list of people he was planning to kill. He apologized to his family with a text message, saying, “Dad went to war last night. I don’t want to say more because I don’t want to implicate anybody.”

The shooter had firearms and a list of 45 elected officials in a notebook in his car. He had been stalking people on the list and made notes about intended victims and families.

A couple of days later, someone saw the shooter in a field near Green Isle and called police, who arrested him.

News reports indicated the manhunt was the largest in state history. What a sad way for the state of Minnesota to make national news. Thankfully, the police intervened quickly, or more people may have been murdered that night.

Life can be hard enough without crazy people making it worse. The good news in this story was that the suspect was interrupted and captured quickly.

Have A Good Week!
