The Cold Spring Sons of the American Legion are proud to present the Cold Spring American Legion with a new Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The new AED system was recently installed on February 7, 2025 with the assistance of members of the Cold Spring Fire and Rescue Department, who have also graciously accepted the responsibility to service the AED machine going forward. This AED is the seventh AED located in Cold Spring. The other AEDs can be found at the following locations: 1) Cold Spring Fire Hall, 2) Cold Spring Baseball Park, 3) The Splash Pad, 4) North Pointe Park, 5) Cold Spring Brewery, 6) DEF Building, 7) St. Boniface Church and 8) Speedway.
An AED system is a portable device that analyzes a person’s heart rhythm and delivers an electric shock to restore a normal rhythm. AEDs are used to treat cardiac arrest, a condition where the heart suddenly stops working. The AED analyzes the hearts rhythm and if needed delivers an electric shock to the heart to restore the hearts normal rhythm.
Here are some other known facts about AEDs:
• AEDs are easy to use and designed to be used by the general public and have voice prompts to guide the user.
• AEDs are safe for everyone and can be used on children, infants and adults.
• AEDs are lifesaving and can increase the chance of survival for people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) by 75%.
• If an SCA victim receives defibrillation through an AED within the first minute, the survival rate is 90%
The Son’s of the American Legion, along with the Cold Spring American Legion would also like to give special recognition and a big thank you to Rich Haselhorst for designing the sign and emblems and Kevin Athman for painting the emblems.
