I can’t comment on the results since you will read this after the election, and I am writing it before the election. I can comment on the relief I’ll feel once the ads disappear and we return to “normal” television/radio/social media that disappears during election years.
Where we now live, the average age is probably north of 75, and a large majority of those voting have, or will, support former President Trump. Florida isn’t much different than any other state when voting more for Democrats when you venture into metropolitan areas.
If you believe the mainstream media, this race will have been one of the closest contests many of us have ever seen. I wish polls would disappear, and all of us were left to vote for the candidate who convinces us they can do the job we need them to do, not being influenced by this poll or that poll or the opinions of media personnel. The interesting thing about polls is very few of them agree with each other, so how would you pick one to believe?
I’m pretty sure I say this every four years – wouldn’t it be refreshing if politicians were required to run their campaigns on their ideals and were not allowed to bash their opponents? In our present day, it seems we never hear those seeking office tell us what they will do to make our lives better; we hear more of the “dirt” they dig up about their opponent.
During this past political season, I couldn’t help but feel that no matter who becomes our next President, there are going to be those on the other side of the vote being very vocal about their loss. I only hope it doesn’t turn into what happened on January 6, 2020.
One thing I know for sure is that American citizens deserve better than we’ve seen in a long time. Too many things have gotten out of hand – I say that as I plan the payment of my nearly $6,000 property tax bill for a 1,670-square-foot home, which is built on less than a half acre of property, and recently paid my property and auto insurance that I see very little hope of ever declining. I can’t even recall the last time I put steaks in my grocery cart. I’m probably not alone when I say I don’t feel much hope that things will change for the better.
I say all that shortly after I went to the polls to vote early and waited for the results nearly a week after my ballot was put into the machine that took it out of my hands.
Have A Good Week!
