Wayne Eugene Fredin, age 70

Wayne Eugene Fredin

Farwell, MN
March 10, 1949 - March 28, 2019

Wayne Eugene Fredin was born March 10, 1949 in Comfrey, MN. He lived there, being raised on a farm, until the age of 14, when his family moved to a farm in Windom, MN. Throughout his high school years, Wayne enjoyed playing on the baseball team as a pitcher. He was a “lefty” and had a pretty good curve ball! He was also in 4-H and participated in livestock showing. Wayne graduate in 1967 and attended college for 4 years.

Wayne and Kathy were high school sweethearts and were married on June 21, 1969. They were blessed with 3 children – Jason Eugene, Bradley Jon, and Meredith Marie. Being a dad was Wayne’s greatest joy. Playing in the barn while milking cows, playing outdoor games, teaching the kids how handle cattle for the fair, learning to ride horse – he was a hands-on dad. Saturday mornings were saved for watching cartoons and snuggling. Wayne enjoyed his cows and the life of raising his family in the country. For many years, while living in Windom, he was a member of the Benson Office Supply softball team.  Lifelong friendships began and are treasured to this day. In 1995, after the kids were off to college and entering adulthood, farming was discontinued and Wayne took a job at NAPA where he worked for over 6 years. He always had an interest in carpentry and worked his way into having his own business. He also converted their outbuildings for storage. Over the years, the customers became his friends. The joy of being a father doubled when Wayne became a grandpa to 8 grandchildren. The fun and games continued and a real sense of pride filled his heart. He loved them unconditionally and so enjoyed attending special events, watching them grow and develop, and was so looking forward to seeing all they accomplished in life. Spending time with his siblings and their families was also important and special to Wayne. He loved being an uncle.

Wayne and Kathy enjoyed 2 trips to Alaska, several to Glacier National Park, Medora, and camping with family. They had recently returned from a trip to Florida and the gulf coast.

Wayne will be remembered for his smile that would light up a room, his kind and compassionate heart and his enduring love for his family. He became a friend to everyone he met. He is the love of Kathy’s life; she wishes they could have had many more dances in the rain. He will be missed more than he’ll ever know.

Left to grieve Wayne’s loss are Kathy, children Brad (and Amy Fredin, Sam, Kate, Max and Gabe), Meredith (and Bruce Runge, Kade, Brooklyn, and Quinn), and son-in-law Steve (and daughter Alyssa). Also missing him are siblings and spouses Curt and Linda, Brenda and Denny, Jeff and Betty, and Scott and Lisa, nieces and nephews.

Greeting Wayne in heaven are his parents Merlin and Ann, Kathy’s parents Adrian and Hope Hislop, and Kathy and Wayne’s oldest son Jason.
